I stopped there in the late 80s and spent the night ...the bed buggers next to me had they're trailers opened folding blankets along with a couple coolers of beer and a grill started .
Sure enough a mass trooper showed and acted like his was God and how dare we enjoy our time off in his kingdom .
I never went back again .

No it was actually the truckstop and catered to truckers.

A shame the local city did that

What happened to the new england truck stop, same area, free popcorn as of 9 years ago, sold cheap shirts with a couple horses on the back screwing, underneath it said "we never stop pumping horsepower into your tanks"

That place still there? My shirt is just about worn out, lol...

Flying J has never "ran" any restaurants as far as I know. And you say that like Country Pride and Iron Skillet restaurants are to be modeled after and are not in a state of decline?

Well, okay. But I guess my larger point is "the trucker" and the trucking industry has changed so much over the past 20 years, that no full service restaurant can be really successful if they must rely on the truck drivers for their success. Iron Skillet and Country Pride will likely start succumbing to reality in the coming years.

I talked to the manager of a truckstop restaurant a few years back. She said that when the 14 hr rule started in 2004, they had less truckers stopping to eat throughout the day. That the impact was very noticeable.

I try to avoid that Sturbridge Pilot if I can help it. I only go in there if I need fuel and/or scale out with a heavy load(a necessity since the CT scale house on 84 loved to play games). It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is that place is always a fluster cuck, even if you’re just trying to park so you can get a scale ticket and get outta there!

That there is a older truckstop. A very fine one if I may say so back in the day.

I don't remember it's history. But I do remember it. In spite of my own fatigue and being over tired after a day fighting Boston Traffic into the market and out. It was to me a nice place to rest. A little nicer than some.

In my life many good truckstops have burned, been buried by parasite big box stores and so forth to the point at which everything I have done in trucking is literally... ancient history easily and best forgotten some would say.

What I can tell you is this. The 70's were happening and the 80's was living it up. We were alive in those days. Big time. And free too. None of that post 9-11 BS we endure now.
