    Get a decent job where you're located now. Go out and see the areas you like to drive through. Then decide.

    Are there companies out there that will hire new drivers (in my case, someone without RECENT driving experience) with daily or weekly home time? I want to get back in to the industry, but now is not a good time to go OTR. Any advice?

    Abilene Motor Express has regional runs and is headquartered in Richmond. They hire drivers with a gap in driving.
    Old Dominion might have something local doing P&D (pickup & delivery) which is home daily. They prefer you apply in person.

    Forget those companies; they won't hire you. You need to get a cdl first. Try Carolina Logistics since they have cdl training program. Your license suspension won't help either, but sometimes Carolina Logistics cuts some slack.

    Yeah, I read on another Trucking forum that OD has a cdl training program as well, but haven't found any other info on their website or anything.. Would my suspension ultimately be what disqualifies me with those companies? I'm honestly not sure if it was suspended since I wasn't driving anymore when I let my medical certificate expire, not sure if that's worth mentioning. That would really suck because OD seems like a great option.

    I need training, regardless.

    I will look into all of those, thanks. I really appreciate the suggestions.

    @Tbbalsam
    If your cdl isn't suspended, then all you need is a physical and register it with the DMV.
    You must get the physical at an authorized center that's registered with the FMCSA.
    Some are pretty cheap also; less than $100.00 and some CVS Pharmacies and chiropractors are also registered to give DOT physicals.

    @Tbbalsam - Sygma Network hires drivers with only a cdl permit.

    Turns out all I gotta do is get my medical exam complete and I'll be able to get my CDL back without having to redo anything!
