I make sure I thank the our pilot car drivers. Because they make the truck driver look good.

Anyways, thanks to everyone for all of the responses- I've had multiple folks private message me and this has turned into a few phone calls/ casual offers to sell equipment/ point me in the right direction. To anyone else out there "lurking" that are curious, feel free to private message me. After further research I really do believe that this can be a successful (albeit small) operation, that will improve service for our customer, cut costs for us/ them, and be able to pay a driver/ crew slightly more than they would be earning right now with a lot more time home. More planning/ research to come, but I'm optimistic.Landincoldfire, Razororange, Humblepie and 1 other person Thank this. -
Just to get this straight, the driver may not be the most responsible as far as the planning and keeping everything moving... they may not be doing the most work on the crew and depending on the set up they do take/need a lot of direction
But #### sure when something goes wrong everything is falling on the driver. Not the supervisor not a pilot not anyone in the office.
At this level of the game that responsibility is more then most people would want to have.LoneCowboy and Feedman Thank this. -

A freight forwarder typically primarily deals in ocean freight/ air freight and offers customs clearance services/ rail service once containers hit portside etc. My company was started as a freight forwarder but obtained a domestic brokerage license in order to increase margins. Usually, a forwarder (say Kuehne + Nagel) would obtain business from overseas, and then once it arrives here in the US, they would call up a freight broker to finalize the domestic delivery. This isn't always the case, as some freight forwarders may have a niche area where they just tender out the freight to their preferred carrier of choice that they have found elsewhere etc.Humblepie, Feedman and johndeere4020 Thank this. -

its the same situation as with any cdl holder when incidents happen only higher risk and potential problems.
All I’m getting at for the op is having the right experienced operator is worth whatever it takes when your money and reputation is on the line.
And just a friendly reminder for you guys if you haven’t thought about it lately lol
