The new year started 4 day weekend with a with what I thought was going to be my second trip hauling transformer oil to Rumford Maine in 2 weeks.

Upon checking with dispatch I learned that I was to load the oil but only pull it up to our Paulsboro NJ terminal on Tuesday. They had me swap it with a driver out of the Auburn Maine terminal for one of their dedicated loads going to Fayetteville NC delivering Wednesday.

Other than having a little trouble with a load that is usually pulled by the same guys dedicated. They just pull in and unload it but I needed direction and no one could understand why I didn't know where to go. Got it off and made it home Wednesday evening.

I then got a 34 hour reset in taking Thursday off.

Friday I grabbed a preloaded trailer sitting on our yard heading to Oakland Ca delivering Wednesday 01/12.

It was snowing through the NC mountains so I chose to run the extra 140 miles along I-20 and I-10. I figured running 65 mph would make for a quicker trip in spite of the extra miles. I am thankful SPCR allows drivers to make routing calls such as this.

I also have a preplan for a load back to Brown Summit NC that loads Friday 01/14 delivering Wednesday 1/19 on our yard for steaming.

The trip was uneventful. I pretty much ran 600 miles a day until the delivery day and got the load off in time to reset before loading Friday.

I am now sitting in a company reimbursed hotel room 50 miles from my loading point. The new year has gotten off to a very good start.

For other SPCR Drivers looking for a Hotel in Stockton the one I stayed at was decent. Its a Quality Inn at exit 476 off I-5 sitting between the In-Out burger joint and a Home Depot. Its only a few miles from the tank wash so if you had to you could drop your trailer and bobtail. They had plenty of parking for both truck and trailer. There are almost always some food service day cabs parked there. I talked to a couple of them and they run up from LA every week and stay there overnight.

Headed out Friday morning and ran the 50 miles up to Sacramento without incident. Loading was about normal for this P&G plant. They loaded me promptly but then you sit around for a couple of hours waiting for lab work and in my case an additive to be poured in the dome. Took about 4 hours total.

I chose to run Ca99- CA58 down to Barstow and catch I-40 back east. Its about 40 miles longer than I-80 but avoids a lot of winter weather this time of year. I had hoped to make it down to Barstow before shutting down Friday.

I stopped in Bakersville to take a leak and when I got back to my truck I noticed a coolant smell. My in transit heat hose decided to take a leak as well. By the time I rounded up what I needed from the truck stop and fixed it I decided to take my break there. The load wasn't scheduled for steaming until Wednesday 1/19 and delivery 1/20.

I am glad I did since I have never been over the mountains on CA58 before. It was much prettier the next morning at sunrise than it would have been the night before. The delay did cost me a night of home time as I ran out of hours about 90 miles from the terminal and without that delay could have gotten home Tuesday night.

I dropped my load on the yard and was off by 10:30 or so. I told dispatch I was available for dispatch this weekend but would not be upset if I didn't go back out until Monday.

I got some nice home time. They were going to have me grab a load on the yard and deliver it in Riceboro Ga today (Mon. 1/24). Log Opps grabbed it to get a Savannah Driver home though so I got another day off.

Tuesday I will head out with a N Chicago dedicated out and back load and should be back home by Thursday evening. This is shaping up to be a below average week money wise. That could change though if they keep me rolling through the weekend.

Made it out and back to N Chicago. Left about 5 AM on Tuesday and was back on the yard by 13:00 Thursday. This was the first time I have dropped one of these dedicated loads in early. It had a 6 am delivery time for Friday. Every other time I have run this I have taken a long break the day it is loaded and run it back to the yard. That required an early start the next morning and usually nothing to do the rest of the day.

After the last one dispatch told me that as long as I could make it to the plant by 14:00 I could drop it in a day early. It is much better sleeping late in my own bed rather than in the truck.

It looks like we are a little slow. I was ready to keep rolling but they don't have anything until Sun or Mon. This will be a below average week but I have grossed over 5K for Jan which is historically the slowest month of the year so I can't complain too much.

Going to fire up the chain saw and take down some dead trees in the yard to keep the SWMBO happy.

5k!! Nice..I enjoy your post.Out to Ca and straight back to NC..Unheard of pulling this box LOL..Have there ever been times where a load cancelled and you had to sit the entire weekend or does Superior have a large freight base that can keep you moving?

Yeah I have sat for a weekend before. The good thing is if you are away from your home terminal you can get a hotel room on the company dime. They also pay layover at $13.70 per hour. 15 hrs free, pay 8, 10 free, pay 8 until you get moving again. That adds some money to your check if they give you a 3 day 500 mile load or have to do a reset.

You don't get paid that if you are at home. When times got tough in 2009 drivers were sitting at home a lot and would be dead headed back home to avoid the layover pay. That's the down side of it but then you are not sitting in a truck stop spending money either.

Wsyrob- keep the updates coming if you will, very informative. I am about 25 miles from their Karns City PA terminal. Have you ever dealt with this terminal? Just curious. I have a few questions for you if you don't mind?

    -What is their operating area?

-Where do they hold and how do drivers get to orientation?

-What is it that they transport?

-Do they have an average length of haul?

    Thanks a bunch.

I have been to Karns City a 2 or 3 times. They are a pretty busy terminal. Lots of refineries/plants right there. Its a pain to get in and out of there in the winter.
