Correct.
As in they "should know what to do."
I hope you're not suggesting I take it back there - to get raped ...err; I mean service.
I would buy a used engine, and play that hand out first.
I bought brand new, and went Dealer installed - to avoid all this BS.
SURPRISE!!
And GOODYSNAP is right; if I was to do that, it would involve much.
Depending on contents of filter - I think I will ride it out.
I don't notice any difference in power, even up the hills?? WTF??
SURPRISE!!

nothing in filter of consequence.
Wish I had thought of this before I dumped the fresh oil in.
I have a flexible strip magnet like is in refrigerator door seals.
I could have stuck that up in drain plug hole
and went side to side and front to back
on the bottom of the pan.
Too late now. -
How is the truck running? Are there any weird sounds? Is there any smoke coming out of the exhaust? Any other symptoms? Or does everything seem normal?
-
No issues. no sounds, smoke, or any other symptoms.
Goes down the interstate 80 mph, no problem, (or it could - if I wished to.)
It was just - surprise - there was a piece of pristine oil ring on the magnet plug.
Not scarred and flattened on one side, no blue color, nothing. -
There is no way a pc of ring could come off a piston unless you have a piston or liner coming apart. And you would of known it by now, ie, blowby ungodly noise or parts scattered down the road. I would say it was already there from the work that was done on your engine.
SAR, shogun and Hegemeister Thank this. -
Right. Just watch the oil and performance.
-
Again; no work done on this engine.
It was replaced. All new parts. Block, too.
Thanks to all for getting back to me. -
I think you'll be alright. You would have seen, smelled, or heard something by now. Good luck.

I could... It's the end broken off a ring.
I Won't be back in town till around 5:00; I'll do that first thing when I get back to the barn.
This piece looks to have no damage or deformation, except the break line. Strange.
To end up in the pan, it would have to turn 90 degrees and slide between the piston skirt and cylinder walls.
This would cause significant deformation and heat bluing to this piece, not to mention block and piston.
My thoughts are this 1/4" long piece of ring, missing in any of the cylinders, would cause loss of power.
None of these occurred.
