My last truck was a Western Star, it had a second keyed ignition switch in the bunk. In the morning I could just reach my arm out from under the blankets and start the truck. Then get up when it warmed up a bit.

Penny wise and pound foolish comes to mind.

Idle the truck until the APU gets fixed. Sleeping to 30 layers of clothing only makes for a very unrestful sleep. Running with open flames ... as another said, alarm only works once that confined space is hard/impossible to leave.
Basically just about every option except idling/hotel is pound foolish in some ways.

Last night it was 30 and will be again tonight. I sleep in a properly made bed with sheets, a blanket, and a comforter.......and I sleep like a king.
The only bad thing is getting up in the morning.
    I love sleeping cold.

    Joetro and PE_T Thank this.

some of these guys will burn $ 40 worth of fuel just because they like to hear the truck running. .... sometimes its hard to figure out if there idling for the ac or the heat ........ I have a bunk heat er and it went out and before I got it fixed I used a 12 volt heater I got at a truck stop and it actually did good down to about 20 degrees ...... I have a condo with 2 bunks I made a lid with a blankets from the top bunk to the top of the seats and that made a big difference keeping the heat in the sleeping area

tommymonza, PE_T and uncleal13 Thank this.
