Let me first say, I am not a swift driver. But I have had a taxi driving job prior to trucking where I drove a van that had a driver-and-road facing camera system installed for accident liability reasons. Wanted to see how their drivers feel about the possibility of living with these things.

They have some training videos up and at the end want you to click an ok button to accept acknowledgement of training and that you have no expectation of privacy while in motion. I'm not clicking it and will see what happens by the date they want it clicked by. My truck is on the way home to be cleaned out once I found out the compliance date, I will carry the minimum.

Reason I do this is I have already refused to comply with other previous changes at Swift over the years and still work there. Reason I will quit if forced onto truck is the "what if" scenarios and after speaking with Melton drivers noted that 100% of them were very uneasy with it and the coaching that comes along with driver facing cam part. Also it's not that I feel that I do unsafe driving and worry about this, but anything can be turned against me in the future. Swift is well known for picking apart situations to make new training material or for other reasons.

A few days ago, I drove the first time one these trucks. (I drive local and I do not have to sleep with this "safty feature". The camera which possibly was new installed was provided with a super wide angle and super sensitive. It came on when I hooked a trailer, when I was bobtailing and accelerating fast. What I think about, I think You can imagine. So, now I am looking for an other job, with much under 16$ I with after 5 Years or so, I am much underpayed anyways. In the worst case, I go to the floorsweeping school and become an expert local at a company with the big yellow "m".

    1:
I don*t know what the company does with these recordings, with this super sensitive camera, I imagine, when I drive in the night with the open curten from the sleeper with a female co driver over the road and maybe over the rumble strip, or a bigger hole in the street in the night on a lonly moter way. I don*t like the idea then when I have to imagine that when I come back to the terminal the people from the safty department enjoys to see the light places from my sun browned female co driver.

2: I do not know what all becomes recorded, so just in case when I stay for a few hours in the ramp and wait that the trailer becomes loaded, then I call some times some people with my cell fon.
Sience I know about these cameras in the trucks of the company where I drive for, I don*t feel free to use cell fon.
When my friends call me, I tell them first.: "Please wait a moment I am in the truck from "@@@@@@" please give me a minute so that I can leave the truck and go so far away from the truck where I can eypect, that the recording or listening of the call should be not possible.
At a few friends, when I call them, the 1st question is "are You in one of these trucks with these "extra safty feature"?
My friends are patient and wait until I leave the truck, but it bothers a lot.

    1.:
I would like to know "how do the team drivers handle this with the camera which when the curten is open films the sleeper also"
2.: Do You still use Your fon like before in the truck?
Do You tell the people where You talk on the fon that You are not sure about the recordingpossibillity of this fon call?

Please be a little bit tolerant with my english, it is ot my 1st language.

Maybe not, this would be sabotage. I think it is better to drive extra safe. Maybe it is better for safty and clean the lense extra good with acetone.

I am a european, and for me it is still difficult to understand the american saftey mentality. Compare to europe, the americans run a little bit different ways for safty. The company where I drive for (a few 1000 trucks), they run absolute different ways for safety.
    During the last 3 days,

the onroaders told me, from the trailer, when only 1 light is not working, the dot agrees with this, they are tolerant.

The dispatcher told me "expired registration, the dot is tolerant, when it is less like a month expered.

Dispatcher told me, "dot, 300 pounds over weight, the weight watchers, they are tolerant.

And few other things like this. All these little things. There it ends up like a game like mouse and cat.

These things, they see it relaxed and tolerant, and push me a little bit, but not hard to deliver the load and hope, they can avoid extra expenses.

Now the company is pushing a little bit, so that all the safty cameras becomes installed into the trucks. There You can see, they want that every body drives safe.

At the european company, where I repaired the trucks some times on the side, the boss had about 10 trucks. Ähe puts in there absolute different safty devices. They were expensive. But the boss tod me some thing like "When these about 15k$ for each truck, saves me only 1 acident, then I have the have the brake event reached and maybe 1 less or not damaged driver.

All the drivers in europe are payd by the hour.

    He put in there

a distance controll. Tailgating was impossible.

a Lane controll, so when You go out of lane, the truck wakes You up and You really react.

he put in a camera, which was not conected to any thing and the history was not trckable. The camera watched all the times into the eys of the driver. I think when the driver becomes tired, (s)he closes the eys in shorter intervalls. So, when the camera detected that the driver is tierd, then there comes out a message like "You tired driver, fly on the site and go to sleep"

    And many other safty features.
And this all with out tracking or recording. And this was about 20 Years ago. And the company still does not not have cameras which faces the driver.

Here in the US, it looks like, the companies, the only safty feature which the trucking companies wants are the driver facing cameras.

Hm, I am not sure about the way of the US trucking companies. I like the european way much more.

    Hold Your bumpers clean!!!
