I left the IT field because (1) I was sick and tired of sitting in large corporate cubicle farms dressed in a suit and tie, putting up with endless micro-management and corporate BS; and (2) I was receiving a great passive income from investments in first trust deeds on real estate in Pahrump, in southern Nevada, about 70 miles away from Las Vegas, where I have resided since late 2005.

Late in 2008, it turned out that the individual with whom I had the investments was running a Ponzi scheme. The scumbag had pulled off a Bernie Madoff for tens of millions of dollars on over 600 investors nationwide. He is going to trial on 27 felony counts of fraud on May 7, 2012. Google "Hans Seibt" and you will see what his Ponzi scheme was all about.

Since then, to no avail, I have sought employment in the IT field.

I am living month to month, hand to month, on a reduced, fixed monthly pension that I was forced to take early at the age of 55 because of my financial loss.
Greetings, all. I retired from the information technology field early in 2004 at the age of 50. I am 58 now. He filed for personal and corporate bankruptcies under chapter 7 of the bankruptcy code. Long story short, my life's savings of $1.54 million was gone. The pension covers my most basic, necessary bills, with nothing left at the end of each month for discretionary spending. In addition to having no money left at the end each month, I am bored out of my skin. Also, I have not seen very much of the USA and I have a high degree of wanderlust in my blood at this stage of my life. Therefore, I am taking a look at trucking as a means for earning some much needed income and satisfying the wanderlust. I have no family at home, having never been married and, obviously, having never fathered any children. Ergo, being away from home for extended periods of time is not a big issue, but I do want to strike a reaonable balance between maximizing my income and having decent home time. My research into starter trucking companies for a southern Nevada resident indicates that my choices are Swift, Werner, and Knight/Squire. After spending countless hours reading through the threads on each of these companies in this and other forums, I have decided that Swift might be the best choice. My request to you readers -- especially readers who drive for any one of the aforementioned companies and reside in southern Nevada -- is tell me about your experience driving for your company. Tell me about your length of time out, home time, whether you are allowed to take your truck home for home time, average length of runs, regional and dedicated runs available to southern Nevada residents, and so on. Thanks in advance.
