    Automatics are for sissies.

Even if they do I would NOT count on getting assigned to one.

I disagree, because everyone whom I have ever known that has said that and then been given the opportunity to use one has changed their mind, saying something to the effect of, "I would never go back."

They must not have known much about trucking. They get crappy milegae unless you manually shift it.

I've driven both. They have reliability problems.

From everything I have been reading on auto vs manual they both have their pros and cons. The autos are getting better as they evolve and so is their mpg. Some companies are switching their fleets to autos. But Swift is not one of them, besides you really need to learn to shift manual since most of the industry is manual shift.

Some companies are switching back to manual. Can't find mechanics that know how to fix the autos. The ones that do demand the best pay, and the banker's hours.

cant speak for if they have auto's . but i can say the utility company i just left had auto's in our crew trucks, they are nice for around town but when we hit the high way we manually shifted the trans going down hills. a 60k truck and 20k worth of trailer and back hoe is a ##### to slow down.

We have a few autos, but from our shop guys "they weren't working out well". Too many maintenance issues and untrained shop personnel seemed to be the concensus.

I love shifting myself, but getting the stick out of the middle of the floor would be nice.....

There were no autos in the training trucks at Millington.

I asked about this when I started and was told that Swift tried a few autos and they didn't work out because the drivers didn't like them so they went back to manual.

The only company I know of that has an all auto fleet is US Express.
