I have a question concerning females who finish Swift training and are put with a mentor? Would the mentor be male or female? My husband and I plan on teaming once I am out of training etc. I dont have a problem with either but would appreciate a heads up. :biggrin_2559::biggrin_25525:
    Thanks E1

They give you a choice of male/female and smoker/non smoker. They try to match you up to your desires. If you don't mind either you'll have no problem, but if you get specific it may take a bit longer to get on a mentors truck.

I'm a non smoker but after a week and a half of waiting for a mentor I told them to give me the first available mentor they had. I have some great stories to tell, but I'd like to somehow be anonymous lol.

    Wyldfyur Thanks this.

chewed me out for running over a curb leaving a shipper after I had just read the sign to him said No Exit for Trucks and he told me to go for it anyway (bad)

harped on me to read and obey all signs pertaining to trucks (good) but don't go slower than 60 in California (bad)

had me go up a 21% hill after I read the sign to him No Trucks Over 10,000 Empty- go for it- got stuck up there had to back down in the rain (bad)

would talk on his cell while driving ("it's legal cuz it's on speaker!") play the stereo so loud because the windows were down due to just lighting up a cigarette then he couldn't hear the CB so cranked that up too, his ole lady couldn't hear him so he would yell into the phone with one hand while pouring another cup of coffee with the other while steering with his knees and oh snap has it been 3 minutes already since my last cigarette?

there was the night he was driving and got a bloody nose lol I'm handing him papertowels and he's wiping and wiping and tossing them out the window then he stuck a whole paper towel up each nostril I swear to god I almost busted out laughing but I thought we were gonna die what with him pouring coffee, talking on the phone and lighting cigarettes and steering with knees.

forgot to mention peeing in bottles while driving and storing them in the door pocket thing on top of the fmscr and hazmat books which were all yellow stained and nasty.

rotten death smelling pepperoni, sausage and various other deli meats cheese and crackers all over the cab floor.

harp and complain about the fuel economy or lack thereof but pull the mountains like they pay you to waste it.

we ran several 1000 mile days and every day I would tell him the oil level is a little lower than yesterday. finally he bought a gallon when I told him the dipstick is bone dry. It was still bone dry.... bought 2 more gallons and put em in, slightly below full. ran some more 1000 mile days, critical low on oil boss, "well i already spent $50 bucks on oil, I'm getting bservice next week why spend more?" all the while every truck stop he's buyiing $40 scratchers lol that's 2 scratchers at $20 each. slot machines ate his shower and laundry money and we stopped about twice a day to put in 50 gallons at a time to limp along. I finally took over scanning his trips in after every load, his checks were smaller but they came almost every day direct deposit rather than trying to survive on one big check every other week when he would scan all his trips at once. I think early on we lost a bol cuz he asked how many trips do i have ready, I said, 4 he said should be 5, oh here it is, I said that's the load we got on us now, he says scan it. later he asked why is there a receipt stapled to this trip? I said we scanned it, he said Oh Sh8t. then forgot about it. I still think he's short because he never got paid for that missing trip.

he made a wrong turn going south, I only noticed because I picked up the atlas and saw that the town we just passed is on the way to Arizona when we want Utah. he was very mad about the 20 mile mistake 'You better be right dude, it's not 20 miles it's 40 miles!' hello, I wasn't driving?

we were going south on a road the directions said turn west at such and such light coming up. he says get in the left lanes, I say what for? He gave me the dirtiest look and said that way is west right? I said nope, this way. Make a left at the light! OKAY. Get up there and he says no don't go down there looks residentialish, go straight to the next light make a right and we'll come back up. Next right No Trucks- Go for it he says. So we go waaaayy down there finally made an illegal U turn and come back up and take some cross streets etc, sees, Napa, oh that must be it pull in! they say nope go back north there and make a left a such and such a light Westbound couple miles up is our DC. No apologies....

I did for most of 2009 then came off the road. I will be returning to Swift in the near future, however.

Swift has been purging cruddy mentors. That dufus should have been written up by you and he would have been gone. Trying to force you to speed in California is your fault. Should have told him to shut up your license not his.
