I'm assuming even the bigger swift shops can't/won't do this.....which is why they look so hurt, puzzled and put me off? Lol....
I got lucky. Only $800 for baking. Doz Filter was covered under warranty. When my MPG really started to suck, they found that needed new ECM and EGR. That was under warranty. They also found a oil leak under the rocker arms, and again warranty. You do have the extended warranty plan. Right?? It is a 60/40 plan. I have used it twice now
I have seen the larger shops taking the DPF filter off for service. I found out from Cummins about getting the DPF baked at least at 200K. Found this out when on a conference call with PHX supervisor and he actually said that they do not bother do to that.
I'm still under the original warranty.....so did u take it in for poor fuel mileage diagnoses? I been wondering if the ECM or something is off to coz according to all her measurements on the dash and qcomm she gets 7.5-8 mpg but in reality it's closer to 6.3 to 6.5 mpg....
U mean they don't even take it out and bang it on the ground to shake loose the accumulated soot? Lol......
They found that my poor MPG was ECM and other crap also. It went in because it would not regen correctly. Took KW almost 5 days to get it fixed right, and that was because Cummins would not let them release it until all done. Cummins had them keep sending Date Dumps to double check. I was told one think by a Cummins mechanic, unless you have a great dealer that you can take it to, like Mystic, it is best to get your work done at an actual Cummins place. Most of the dealers, they just fix the problem. They do not really bother to find out what is causing the issue.
Idiot savant at ta in meridian ms fixed my ac and doesn't even know it..... Went in becoz suffering no ac last 2 days...and it is very uncomfortable with the humidity in the south....so I bit the bullet and took it here, and the mechanic started diagnosis ing it before he even looked at it....ummm,ok? He had it in his mind that there were metal shavings in the system....um ok? ....becoz of that thought already n his mind,he pretty much discounted every other possible thing,lol....even hooked his gee whiz gizmo ac checker and said yep....just as I thought...u need to flush the whole system! Ummmmm...well u know sir since u hooked up your gee whiz ac gizmo...it's blowing cold air sir.....he said ahhhh, that's not cold son!......ok,how much do I owe u? 60$ ....thx...ac works great now...thank u idiot savant at ta meridian
IMHO there are three fundamental problems with Swift shops: 1. They don't do oil analysis. 2. They don't dyno test. 3. They follow the 70% philosophy. When I become an O/O I will want oil analysis at every change and fairly regular dyno testing to stay on top of engine wear and performance. Swift doesn't do these because they get rid of their trucks after three years. When I had a POS truck in the Phoenix shop (a truck given up by an O/O) I had a chance to read a memo to the shop from Richard Stockey, commending them for following the 70% philosophy. It's a marines principle. Basically if the truck can still move it's supposed to get out the door. Keep the wheels turning. Don't try for perfection. While I understand the economics of applying that philosophy, I disagree with the results. Safety and fuel economy are comprised, not to mention the added cost of major repairs because their shops repeatedly put a truck back in service with serious problems.
