That's a bigger deal than you might think. Understanding the larger fleets are going to have their equipment set to a maximum speed. And understanding the median company speed limit policy seems to be somewhere near 65 then anything slower than 65 means you're going to have that many more vehicles pass you in a given day.
Every pass event you can eliminate improves safety that much more. I'm certainly not a proponent of national truck speed limit but if you as a company are going to set it somewhere between 60 and 70, then by all that is holy, SET IT AT 65! Not 63, not 66, not 67, but 65. Otherwise set it at 70, or wide open. One of those three.
I'm at 65 with a 70 PasSmart option. Lately, (last 6 months or so) I'm seeing a lot struggling to pass at 66, and a few at 67. It's annoying. And I know because that's what the very accurate front radar says.
Granted tire wear or lack of begins to play a part given same-spec'd trucks across numerous large fleets.Last edited: Nov 14, 2017

Great. Now Swift will be drag racing Fed-Ex and causing more 5 mile backups. And just imagine the Carnage in work zones......
JC1971 Thanks this. -
CR England is another large 63 mph fleet. PasSmart (Freightliner) should be mandatory spec option for those limited to 63 and 65 and a lot of problems would go away.
