What is wrong with these stupid companies? The previous cameras had main triggers of hard braking and sharp turning. You could even run through a red light and you are okay as long as you didn't hit your brakes to trigger the camera. And you would know that the camera recorded a event because it would start flashing.

These cameras however don't flash to let you know that a event has been triggered. You can't even run through red lights anymore because it doesn't go off of hard breaking. It goes off of A.I. so if it sees you running through red, it will automatically trigger the camera. The very first day I got in the truck with the camera, I got a call from the office saying that I was 2 mi over the speed limit of 55 mph for approximately 45 seconds.

I've never had that problem with the previous camera and the craziest thing about it was I got a call from the office about being two miles over the speed limit literally 1 hour after it happened!

And not only that, but the previous camera only had one lens facing the road. This camera however has four lenses. One facing the road, one on the left, one on the right and one facing the driver for a 360° view.

Simply put.... they are tired of paying out 9 figure settlements because they have no proof of the drivers actions before the crash.

You sound like a good reason for the cameras.

Hard breaking is avoidable, running red lights , no excuse.

The camera is not your problem, your driving habits is your problem. Slow down, take your time, there is no excuse for a truck runnig a red light, if your running red lights your driving too fast. I would probably fire you .

Lol sounds to me like you’re one of those drivers that needs a camera if you’re running red lights. I recently got a truck with driver facing camera. I thought about quitting but finally decided to look at it as a challenge. It’s made me a more careful driver I admit. Not all bad.

Oh by the way in the very near future you wont have to worry about, driverless trucks are on the road now, so you wont have a job soon anyway.

Thankfully I'm just a couple of years from retirement so I don't have to worry about that nonsense.

I do feel sorry for the younger people though.

My first part-time job after retiring from trucking was supervising college students at a job. NOTHING can make me feel sorry for young people. They expect a luxury limo ride to evacuate the building after a fire alarm. Then NEED 48 phone breaks per shift, and then at least 2 UberEats breaks with suitable down-time to digest. And if you interrupt their sports betting just because a customer needs help, well get ready for ANOTHER talk with HR about managing employees.

Been driving with vehicles having cameras for the last 8 years now it does not bother me anymore I know the cameras are there for my protection and I've come to accept them admittedly I was a little dubious when I first got in a truck with cameras, but you do get used to them after all aren't you filmed every time you enter a bank, post office, etc etc there are camera all over the place in truck stops as well so its just part of life now. Each company would determine how the cameras function as you say some will come on for a brake check while others are programmed to come on if you have a microsleep which is good, anything that will prevent a driver falling asleep is always a good thing. The only negative with cameras that I'm aware of and that is still a matter of opinion is some feel it's an invasion of their privacy. It is a catch 22 in some cases if only there were less incidents we would not need cameras, however if you get some looney that decides to pull in front of you and you run into the back of them under brakes this is where having a camera will prove you were not in the wrong.
