yep, you heard about how people would go outside and pump water in a bucket to bring it into the house? well instead of pumping water you were hand pumping fuel into a bucket and then dragging it to your truck and pouring it into the fuel tanks. Only problem was it was a bad idea to mix buckets as there would also be a water bucket in order to fill the radiator. think you might find a few stations still around that have the ole hand fuel pump. Matter of fact some of the truckstops you might have seen in the fuel island there is a stand to get water and you have to pull the handle up? well there use to be 2 of those. (1 for fuel and the other for water) along with a handle that you had to pump to get your fuel and or water or both.
Well, my father drove for 35yrs, up till 96 I didn't have anything to do with trucking except when I was a kid up to 19 or so and than not again till 2008 so, I guess I missed that information...lol Don't recall my dad ever telling me that, or him doing it while I was with him on the road. Learned something new today...thanks
well, ask him about it he will tell you.....just like there use to be indian trails that we had to follow in order to get loads from one place to the other without having the trucks/trailers shot up with arrows. that was way back when there was no such thing as air brakes, you had brakes but you had to cool them down with water when they started to get hot.
sorry to hear that.... I am sure someone on here could elaborate more, on the subject, some may have some old pics of how it use to be.....i guess you will just have to ask around either on here or at the truckstops....but the good times are over and have been over for awhile now.
I was just there, what did they change that I didn't notice? Still looks the same to me, other than the fuel side... I do like mom/pops much better than conglomerates...
The restaurant.. The food isn't near as good as it once was, and now that its a T/A it attracts the mega fleets because a good many of them use T/A for fuel.. The Davy Crockett in TN met the same fate, I don't go in there anymore either.
