I have read it would be wise to get a Hazmat endorsement just in case you need it. I am also curious about getting tanker endorsement.

What is the best way to obtain each? I see courses online. Are those any good? Thanks

    tscottme and austinmike Thank this.

Some drivers prefer the phone/tablet app.
I guess the app can be put on your laptop also.
CDL Genie seems the preferred one.

Read the questions for Hazmat and for Tanker, then memorize the answers.
For Hazmat, you'll also be fingerprinted.

I see a DMV Genie CDL app in Play Store...is that the correct app?

I studied the hazmat material in my state's CDL driver manual.

Then took practice hazmat tests on-line.

When I saw I was consistently scoring high -- I scheduled a time to take the CDL hazmat test at my local DMV office.

Later -- you will need to get fingerprinted. This is basically a security clearance -- & is treated as such.

You will pay a fee for the fingerprinting & background check.

The tanker endorsement is much simpler. Study the tanker material....take the DMV test (at same appointment as for the hazmat test).

Later...you will get an updated driver's license in the mail -- with those new endorsements.

These will open up many new CDL job opportunities (with better pay) for you.

I guess it is. Maybe some other driver will verify it.

If you apply to work for Schneider with those endorsements already on your CDL -- you will be more likely to get hired by them.

Save you money for the fingerprinting/Background check. You can get the book from the DMV and study it. And Google will show you sites where you can get practice tests for free. And there is also one right here at TTR, Top of the page where it says CDL Practice Tests.

You’ll have to do the Entey Level Driver Training for hazmat. Courses online are in the $70 range. I’d get fingerprinted after the ELDT that way everything is taken care of when you go in to take the written test at the DMV.
