Muse Dahir told the AP this past week he quit his job at the Sam’s Club in Bloomington after he was transferred from another position to cashiering and was ordered to ring up pork purchases.
Several times on his first day as a cashier, Dahir said, said customers brought pork products to his register. He asked them to take their goods to another register, and a customer complained to management.

“Even if you just sell it to someone, you break a promise to Allah."

Well, if that's the case, why do they work for a place that does something so abhorrent to their religion? As a Christian, I would not want to work for a company that encouraged practices that I felt were not in line with my beliefs. And if I did decide to work at such a place, I would expect to have to suck it up and do my job. After all, the sale of that pork product helps pay their wages, which I doubt they'd turn away.

If I were a retail employer, I'd be hesistant to hire a Muslim if I had to worry that he'd turn around and refuse to do whatever because it might offend his religion.

I'm not targeting any religion or sect of people here. What bothers me is that people will accept a job offer and then renege on it, placing the blame on the employer when they find something personally offensive. Me? If my employer asked me to participate in a standard business practice which I did not like, rather than making waves for the employer, I would just go find employment elsewhere.

I myself do not drink, but when I worked at a gas station/party store I sold the stuff.....I couldn't step back and say hey I am a non drinker that stuff offends me and my beliefs.....it was part of my job. I feel sorry for the employers who are afraid to just get rid of them cuz they might get sued.....its a mess for sure. The workers mentioned in this story are well aware of the products sold at the store, so why do they even want to work there? Like ducks said part of their wages come from the sale of pork. so how is that right?

I'm surprised with the politcal correct atmosphere being what it is today, that the store didn't stopselling pork items because of the complaint. I also wonder if the store would be as accomdating to Chirstians if a similar complaint was given about tobacco or alcohol sales. I suspect the store would probably tell that nice white chirtistian to find a new job.

    ASSIMILATION!!!!!!

these - AHHHHH - I cannot even express this in an articulate manner...I just want to scream obscenities.

Why are these people protected in their jobs??? Take a job that is open on the holidays then refuse to work on christmas, easter, good friday, ash wednesday, etc....you would be out of a job in minutes...

I am glad I was not in this guys line, I would have made such a scene, it would not have been funny. The police would have probably had to remove me kicking and screaming, and on top of that I would have left my goods there, and never stepped foot in the store again....
