Tariffs are to get rid of the income tax. Instead of using income tax (the people) to fund the gov. Tariffs will fund the gov. Instead of passing a waste of money bill like the last regime did to hire a bunch of IRS agents. Now the IRS isn’t really needed to be funded. Less Gov spending. Tariffs will make this country enough money on its own.

Tarrifs don't work like a magic wand. It would take much longer than one, two or four presidential terms for the effects to present themselves in reestablishing domestic manufacturing base, if that's the main purpose of it. That's highly unlikely with the voting patterns of the last 50 years. It was tried during Trump first term. China can and will manipulare their currency to offset tarrifs burden.
This stick has two beating ends and you - common mortals, will be first to feel the whoopin when you buy your stuff at Amazon, Costco, Walmart because lots of it comes from abroad. You'll feel it too when you buy a set of new tires for your truck because more expensive Double Coins will make Michelines and Bridgestones go up in price too.

Were there not tarrifs on agricultural machineries what plunged this country into the civil war 160 years ago?

Not the most political person, but it seems the prez wants brake drums made in Pittsburg again, not Mexico or Canada. That was okay in 1967, but today, the world is so intertwined, I don't think it can work. At 70, the decisions made today will have little effect on me, but did you ever see the movie "Wall-e"? With money blowing in the wind like garbage on a planet that has become uninhabitable? Good luck with that,,,

These tariffs are there for a reason, to get these two countries to work with us, which they have refused to do.

Canada needs our dollar, they need our importing their goods, 25% will damage their economy and they may not rebound from it where we can absorb the higher prices.

Mexico is controlled by the cartels, they have supported an invasion of our country, normally this is considered an act of war, and it should have been treated as such. This is a country that we need to fight to stop the cartels.

I was going to say Mexico is a Narco state that is flooding our border with drugs, violence and illegals. Many of whom are not Mexican, but Mexico allows them safe passage to our door step. And china has waged a silent war for years. They steal intellectual property, support and prop up our enemies and they are in bed with the Narcos that are flooding this country with fentanyl. I say bring on the tariffs and bring these countries to heel. The cost of these cheap goods and labor it too high.

I’m wondering how everything will shake out. Inflation, housing, interest rates, wages. Everything’s out of whack. I expect a short boom regardless. Hopefully we can avoid an inevitable recession and housing correction. All these things need to somehow come together in line with norms. I can’t see how housing can avoid a drop in prices. Wages will have to go up, and rates go down. Not counting on either happening soon.

I hope my post doesn't turn into a long read but.....
I'm gonna post on the country's & the people's aspect of what's going on here.

First, this is all about sacrifice. Just like the sacrifice we as a pre-independent nation experience in the mid to late 1700's. Not one nation in the world thought a bunch of hillbillies with no military background could defeat the most powerful nation on earth at the time. The reason.... was sacrifice. Sometimes we have to sacrifice at the time to see a better outcome at a later time.

Sady, so many people in this country have no real understanding of sacrifice or the will to sacrifice. They are only focused on themselves and today. So many people in this nation today have been raised to depend on someone else to just lay the result at their feet. Some people in this country are lazy and have no will for sacrifice. All they want is a good result lain at their feet.

Sacrifice, is paying a higher price today for a good result of a lower price tomorrow. But some people in this country have lived their entire life with their hand out waiting for someone else to put biscuit and gravy in their hand every time they cry that they are hungry. With some people in this nation, it's all about "me". It's not about everyone as a whole or the situation as a whole. Everyone else needs to do the work, so they (the selfish) can be lazy, take a leisurely life while everyone else piles the bacon on their plate for them.

The topic at hand is going to require some short term sacrifice for a better result for this COUNTRY down the road. If you make this country strong, the people will be strong. That requires sacrifice on the part of the people. The same sacrifice we have had to endure since the 1770's. Nothing big comes without sacrifice. We conquered in 1776 and today is no different. The people need to get on the boat and expect some hard times today for some better times down the road. It requires sacrifice. Some uncomfortable days. You just got to tighten your belt and realize the result of sacrifice to realize a good outcome that will make this country stronger.

If you're not willing to fight and sacrifice like the people who built this country before us, I really don't want to hear from you. If all you want to do is sit around and cry about it, I don't want to hear from you.

The word is "sacrifice". Its what is required to make this country strong. Look it up, give it some thought & get on board. This aint about YOU, its about this country.... and when we make this country strong, the people will be strong. EVERY citizen will be strong not just one or two here and there. A strong country, supports all people.

"The Republican campaign orators and pamphleteers say that the various import duties levied by Congress are paid by the foreigners who send goods to America, and they deny point blank that the price of any article which may be called a necessary expense will be increased to Americans by the operation of the new tariff law. Fortunately for those who believe in tariff reforms, the question as to who pays the tariff taxes, and likewise the pleas which are made in answer to this question by the partisan defenders of the new law, may be referred to the arbitrament of incontestable facts. It is no longer necessary to meet theories with theories. Let the facts, which are multiplying every day, tell who it is that pays the onerous tariff taxes. They will answer that the American people pay these taxes and that the burden of them rests most heavily upon the poor, inasmuch as there are very few of the necessities of life the prices of which are not increasing on account of the McKinley tariff." New York Times, October 21, 1890.

McKinley went on to become a free trade advocate. Tariffs haven't been an effective revenue source since before WWI.
