Fine, don't talk about pickups (whatever makes sense to you, I didn't bring that up in the first place either). ;)

Would you rather the driver ,
    A. Pull over to the shoulder to do this.
    B. Travel down the road and mess with his gps?
    Pick One answer only.

My answer would be pull off at the nearest off ramp to set up a gps.

    C. Enter the address while parked in a designated spot.

I hate it when I'm broke down on the shoulder, beside a travel lane .

Yet most every other truck driver likes to park on the shoulder for no reason.

Sometimes reprogramming a GPS isn't as simple as pushing a few buttons. Our company has old QualComm GPS units that love to freeze up and/or shutdown altogether and the only way to fix the problem was to pull over, shut off the ignition, then shut off battery power to the truck, wait 5-6 minutes before turning the battery power back on then waiting an additional 5-6 minutes for the QualComm to reboot. It's a royal PITA

Why pick one answer only, when the ONLY LOGICAL ANSWER IS NOT LISTED! Get off the freeway to deal with your GPS, cell phone, ham sandwich that you just dropped on your lap, or whatever.
Looks to me like you are trying to defend something you do a bit of yourself.

I suppose everyone can and will ague about the issue of was he legally parked as a professional driver he will be called to blame if any blame is made regardless of whether the 4WD was DUI or speeding unless he could prove he was broken down in which case he would of had all his safety triangles displayed. My thought is if i had a load i'd set my GPS up before i got on the highway in the first place. Because there was a loss of life someone will be held accountable by the DPP.

Have you ever tried to find a place to park a rig in the middle of the night when you are tired and need a break? There is absolutely nowhere to go. Truck stops and rest areas are full.
That's why truckers park on shoulders. But in today's world there's no accountability and truckers get the blame for a problem that they have no control over.

Why yes I have, the shoulder is for breakdowns only, not to pee or fiddle with a gps or Facebook.
I hate being broke down on the side of a road, but most drivers love to park right over the crest of a hill so they can get that gravitational boost to hop back on the interstate at 2 mph.

Anyone who has been OTR for more than 2 weeks has experienced the parking problem.

Still does not make the shoulder of an interstate a safe place to park. Its not like you suddenly realized,.. Oh wow,.. its after midnite,.. how am I going to find anywhere to park now?? If that is indeed the case you should honestly hang up your keys and find another career. Trucking and trip planning are not in your list of abilities that you do well.

Anytime I drive nights,.. and I often do. I make sure I have a place to park when and where ever I will be. You can not rely solely on rest areas and truck stops for your parking needs. Be a grown up and take action for yourself. Protect the motoring public around you. You are the professional. They are commuters,.. nothing more than sheep. You need to be responsible.
