Hey diesel what rears do you have in your truck? Another reason you might not be getting the same milage as the fuel mileage as your old truck is spec'd for fuel mileage. The company trucks have direct drive ten speeds linked to a 2.64 rear end ratio will give it great fuel mileage but it wont get out of its own way. With your truck you probably have 3.55 gears in it and you just need to find what gear your truck likes the most for fuel mileage. you might get better fuel mileage running in 9th direct pulling heavy loads then in 9th over. I have heard some O/O's have run 18 speeds who rarely use 9th gear at all because they get better fuel mileage using the lower gear. I am guessing thats because the lower gear is keeping the engine in the sweet spot of power and fuel mileage.

Keep in mind fighting these winter winds have been playing havoc on fuel mileage. I ran 2 loads this week where I was almost 1MPG under what I normally run. Both runs that I run fairly regular. They gross out around 78K and I can run between 6.5 and 6.8 at that weight and i barley got over 5.5. Even empty I was fighting for 7MPG when I normally get 8-8.5

Heres a thought about fuel mileage DFO (but what do i know about it) you may have to rethink the way and when you "put your foot in it". If in theory your truck is running 100 % and i know from what you posted in your last thread you quickly learned to say "screw it" to the fuel bonus to make the truck work for you - which i absolutely agree with. But i wonder if you may have grown accustom to a bad driving habit which could hurt you a little now. FYI: I am not saying i think you are doing anything wrong cause i can tell you seem to be fairly intelligent and will figure out whether its your foot or the truck.
And i am talking about road speed --more about foot pedal to power output.

yep....kinda thought the same myself. Personally, 99% of the time I don't run over 60......but, that's my deal.
Thing about having your own truck is you get to make those kinds of decisions for yourself. But, as you go along, every now and then you'll see why Schneider does some things they way they do. Driving at 60 is one of those things......jus' sayin'.....

another thing......check your tire pressure. You'd really be surprised how much of a difference in mpg it will make. I run 110 all the way around.

Just a question for some of you that know better (I don't want to "Hijack" DFO's thread but it may help him).
Should these leased trucks be taken somewhere and be reprogrammed, remapped, dynoed for maximum power or what ever is necessary for the correct operation of a particular eng?
I do not buy into the theory that these company,s spew about the trucks being governed slow for fuel mileage in all cases but more for not having someone out of school going 90 weighing 80,000.
I know it has a lot about how well someone drives and understands his gearing and foot pressure (not talking about you DFO just all drivers in general).
In a nut shell i know when we pulled the wire on a governed (at 68 i believe) cab over pete in 1986 (dont remember the year model or eng.) It went from somewhere at 3. something MPG to 5. something.
That was coast to coast. And yes they only had 1 wire you needed to yank to disconnect them back then and yes i always accurately mathematically did the numbers for my own curiosity.
The method of driving back then was to go as fast down hill (with the governor hooked up and within reason) as you could -keep your foot in it and hope you could make it as far as you could up the other side till the power came back on --i guess it is the same now. Point is -i got much better mileage -ungoverned.

DFO, you got to slow down, 65-70 with heavy loads will not produce desired mpg results also less mpg in colder weather. I run 57-59 in 12th( I have a 13 speed with a DD15) WHne I bump it up into the mid 60's mt mpg decreases. I average 6.6-7.0 and most my loads are 40lbs plus. I have a 09 Cascadia. Cummins also are good motors for MPG's I normally got over 7 mpg with my last truck that had a cummins.

ETCH5858 -question for my own curiosity: Are you governed at some mph? is the 57-59 mph cause you run there best for fuel mileage ? At any point does your truck shut down because of road speed ?

Man i understand the "running their business part" but 57-59 MPH? Man if you are on e-logs you cant be that productive just my honest opinion...Considering live-loads, live-unloads etc...when i get my own truck, i will be going between 65-70 MPH...In a company truck going 60 MPH i can drive around 500 in like 9 hrs and some change. If i average 68 it can be much better, but thats just my opinion
