Home Depot is the worst company on the planet. If it weren't for the fact that I'm sure there are plenty of people employed by them that really need the jobs, I could care less if that company went bankrupt and burned to the ground. I refuse to shop at their stores and will only pull freight for them if there are no other options. I spent all day today on some backwoods goatpath route down here to Lake Park, GA to deliver to the HD DC that ranks on the crap level scale only 1 level above the HD DC in McCalla, AL. I am racking my brain trying to find a decent route down here that doesn't involve goatpathing or going 60 miles out of route. I think I'm going to look at the map and see how far I can take US-1 and see how long it stays 4 lanes for - that may be an interesting option. Anyway, so I arrive at this ****hole of a DC and get checked in. I get to my drop slot and of course there is a Werner trailer in that hole, so I find another one a few spots down and drop it there. Then I have to rack my brain trying to determine that 2 digit code for whatever God-forsaken reason the guard shack must ABSOLUTELY have, because it hasn't been repainted since the DC opened and I'm not sure if that is a D or a B or a 8 or a 0 or a 6. Anyway, so then I go to find my empty at the assigned location, and of ****ing course the empty is not there. It's not anywhere. So I find another SNI empty in a completely different spot and of a completely different trailer number, hook to it, and then sit in the tetris cluster**** that is the exit of that place. After only about 4 high-speed accidents involving the impatient jockeys flying through the middle of the waiting trucks at about 45MPH, finally I get to the gate. As I'm stepping out of my truck this other guard walks out and looks at me with this attitude and says "SIR, I NEED YOU TO BACK UP BEHIND THE LINE". Now, let's be realistic here. You could literally draw a vertical line from the back of my steer tire directly downward, and I would not be in the crosshatched area. I am literally 3 inches inside this area. Normally, I'm not the least bit argumentative with these guard as I want to be gone just as much as they do. Those of you that have met me know I'm just a real easygoing person that never starts any ****. But she was just asking for it. I just #### my head to the side a bit and say "You have GOT to be kidding me". Well, apparently this sets her off as she begins to go on a little bit of a tirade about "WELL IF YOU HAD SEEN THAT STOP SIGN" (of which there are about 4, each at different locations in the exit lane) "THEN YOU WOULD HAV----". At this point I'm not having any of it. She's still ranting mid sentence and my truck engine is off, so I hit the engine fan switch and crank it up and let it sit there with my foot on the throttle at about 1500 RPM for a good 10 seconds pretending I'm building air as she's still trying to talk. Of course fan is blowing her hair and all the papers in her hands everywhere and at this point I'm about to pull a rickybobby and drop this trailer right at the middle of the exit lane and leave. So I put the truck in reverse, let the clutch hit the friction point and roll back 3 inches, making sure to stop with my front tires EXACTLY behind that line. I then get out hand her that stupid ticket with everything scratched out and go on my own rant about how there was a trailer where I was supposed to drop, a Werner empty where my SNI empty was supposed to be, and a trailer number that didn't exist. So now she has to go back into the guard shack and redo all the paperwork because everything is in a different spot and has different locations (what goes around comes around you *****). Finally the gate opens and I just roast out of there. **** Home Depot. Absolute TRASH. Anyway, no load out of here yet. Hopefully I don't get stuck down here for a few days like I did last time.
Che...cha...chi.. i cant pronounce that word you and drifter speak of. I haven't strayed more than 120 miles from Carlisle all week , looks like it will stay that way til next Thursday.
yeah home depot and anheuser busch are 2 customers I no longer haul for no matter the reason... way too many problems like the 1 dfo had and I'm not in the mood to put up with their crap any longer
Yeah, those idiots freak out if you pull up into the "crosswalk" that is the most pointless and unused crosswalk ever. I think the guards paint the crosswalk themselves just so they can give drivers ####
Howdy all. Had a few moments so I thought I'd catch up a bit. And vent. One month into this, and here are my feelings: Not bad. Pretty happy with settlements. Decidedly NOT happy with the number of cancelled loads (three in the last three weeks), and without exception they are at the front end of a plan involving two or three loads. But this morning stung. Badly. Im in Birmingham, AL. Delivered yesterday to Bessemer, planning to pick up a load in B'Ham headed to SC so I could be home this weekend. Did you hear about the professor at the Univ of South Carolina that was gunned down by his ex? Good friend of my wife. She works in that department as the Admin Asst to the Assistant Dean. She's taking it hard....real hard. And no one told me about the load canceling until I got there, though I have strong feelings this was known far earlier (that's the part that really peeves me). Wife has told me to just get here when I can, but after three cancellations, I'm pretty POd. Truck is is continuing to run well...good mileage even with pretty heavy loads. Everything working. Computer issue resolved itself when it went thru an update a few weeks back. Im hoping the cancellations are just a symptom of this time of year. As usual, time will tell.
Overall the cancellations are not too bad. It's rare over the long haul. Sometimes it just all happens at once. I had 4 in one week, then none for 2 months.
