Look at it like this. You only get better at driving by day by day experience. Time is the only way to be considered a professional. With Time, you will learn from mistakes. I have 37 years driving, City and Suburbs, some road, And never had an accident, Got 1 ticket in 85`, another in `74 , none speeding. So all you Newbies, If you can go that many years and match that or better, then you can tell all, proudly.
    Experience is earned not given.

You clearly didnt understand my post
As mentioned,They are on their own with their own IMO.
They have it all figured out, follow all the rules and are above reproach
because they can google quote "Trucking" Chapter and verse.

The old school class understands all the exceptions
and it is from there we support our experience.

I understood it all too well and IMHO--this is a never ending story--old school new school etc....Maybe you should re-read it and think about it
The more things change the more they stay the same!

I agree, I too have been at this for 14 years, and I remember when I started, they told me that the drivers just weren't the same.I was taught by nothing but ol' timers and they taught you how to be courteous,How to not park in others peoples way when you came to your delivery etc.Where I work now it amazes me.We are in a building along with a whole other range of businesses. The drivers see our trucks, and loading docks and assume since the address is right, this must be the place. They even have just backed in our docks, then when they come to the office, they get their ##### chewed and are told they are in the wrong suite. They look dumbfounded. We sometimes tell them where they should go look, but even then half the time they get the directions wrong to even go next door.I fear that the GPS age has given way to more idiocy.

Yard jockeys must be "new breed" drivers, then. Blasting the train horn in the yard all hours of the night, complete disregard for other people's equipment, slamming the kingpin, dropping trilers onto the landing gear, slamming into the docks, rubbing trailers together, when they leave space betwen trailers, it's about eight inches (hey, I might be able to fit in there to wind up the landing gear, but I'm an exception) driving mach-4 through parking lots where other people have to walk, parking trailers along the fence line right in front of the docks (if he can get in there with that short-nose single-screw yard goat, you should be able to fit your stretch-framed hood in there) and never, ever turning those work lights off, let alone dimming the headlights.

Wait a minute.....that sounds like almost any truck stop.

    Nevermind.

I havent read all the posts yet...BUT WE (my husband and myself)
have been out here a long time 27 yrs and 20 yrs ...and we have excellent PSP (CSA) reports, clear mvr and NO accidents in that time...WONT drive unsafe equipment or run illegal....not ALL older drivers have bad habits.

Don't forget dragging trailers the length of the DC with locked brakes, not once, but twice. 16 tires ruined by the same jackwad.:biggrin_25510:
