I voluntarily switched to elogs a few weeks ago, best decision I ever made. I think the only people who whine about them is those looking to run illegally. But then their problem isn't with an electronic log book, it's with the Hours of Service.

The fancy computer forces drivers to be what we all should be... honest.

I must be confused, an ELD is basically a paperlog book in electronic format, so how would a 14 and a 10 be logged differently on paper than on a piece of electronics?

You guy are way too over regulated. Myself..if I am on the road i run till Im feel its time to sleep. Screw the HOS ...sharp pencil trumps that BS. But in the end you no doubt will take it like a trooper:)

You know better possibly than to ask that. I would be mighty tempted to show you.

But I digress. I feel the HOS structure is flawed. And if it can be made in Congress to make changes to the law that gives drivers more freedom and shippers, recievers assurances that yes the load will be delivered etc plus a established routine for drivers each day and night as they prefer. Is that too much to ask?

Getting a majority of the House to agree to legislation would be a start. Then the Senate then President signs into law.

Simple protests will lead to nothing and present a temptation for those in black who would show up and deliberately cause trouble.

I'd be willing to bet that something happens to stop the eld mandate before it happens in dec.

The reason I don't think anyone is listening is the argument that ELD's are counterproductive, but ELD's themselves are only doing what they are programmed to, so the real issue is the HOS. The HOS is what they should be trying to change.

Not sure why anyone would need to worry about stopping the 14 to take a nap. You have 3 hrs of that 14 hr cycle to do anything outside of actual driving, since you only have 11 hrs to drive in the 14. There have been numerous times I just combined a 30 minute mandatory break and a short nap all in one. If I did take a nap for two hours, that would satisfy part of the 8/2 spit for a 10 hr break. Later, I would just need to take a 8 hr sleeper and drive on with the hours available from the split. You know, the way we did it for all those years before the new HOS rules came into being! Creativity... the sign of intelligence.

Being retired, this doesn't concern me much, but I do like to keep abreast as to what's happening to the industry I spent my whole working life in. EZ, I wish you all the best of luck. History has shown, these situations require a lot of people to make a peep , but in the end, it does little good, save for the satisfaction of "at least I tried". I rarely see these demonstrations actually do any good. The problem, it seems, is you'll never get 100% show of force with truckers. The job is way too diverse, always has been. What's good for one, sucks for another. I had 1 job, a union job with electronic logs. Actually, I liked them,,,,for the job I did, but many jobs I did, like my own truck, that wouldn't fly for a minute. When I had my own truck, the only way to make money, was to break the rules. I went out of my way, to insure I didn't get caught, but again, in the end, it just didn't pay. Best of luck to the cause.Tip of the hat to ya' for trying.

OOIDA has 158,000 members and has tried to stop the ELD laws and have not been successful. People should try and change any law they don't like. You guys have big challenge ahead of yourself.
