Aren't the pilots required to carry CDL's as well?!? (<<< one would think.) Presumption on my part; never did H/H.

Just wondering out loud, WHO dropped the ball here. . . . ?!?!?

No they are not. Highly doubtful anyone loses a job Over what’s posted. That looks very much like the new 84m blades that are being moved over the road for the first time in the states. #### happens, bad route surveys happen. As long as no ones hurt and nothing is damaged, it’s not an issue. Having to pull signs and trim trees is fairly normal.

I haven't been through des Moines in awhile, but last I knew the i80/us141 interchange was still being worked on. Narrow lanes and suicidal 4-wheelers racing through there at 80-200 mph... Maybe they made a last second detour because of a wreck or something?

Hopefully they have it figured out. That’s a nightmare for sure. Wind division is pretty dang challenging. I see them four five times a week running that area.

A CDL is not required for a pilot, a certificate of training as a pilot is in some states and there are some states that recognize other states certs.
Chances are the route survey did not take into account the amount of rear overhang or the loads were forced off route by construction or an accident. The permit office normally routes around construction but if the construction was not scheduled when the permit was issued this can cause a major kaffufulle.
The Driver is responsible but must trust that the lead pilot can follow the route as permitted. When I was moving OSOW I always discussed the days routing before starting the day, and my pilots had strict orders to stop me if any deviation was needed. A detour had to driven in the pilot car and I called for approval before going of route to cover my butt.
