We woke up with head aches and a strong chemical smell in the air. The APU was running all night charging the system so the truck had been off.
there are 4 batteries and the second from the right is venting a visible gas (see how its wetting the right battery) and is hot to the touch. I turned everything off and turned the battery switch to disconnect.
the good news is that we are parked at a truck and repair shop getting our conastoga kit installed so it couldn’t have happened at a better time.
Now we need to find out what the damage to the repair fund is going to be….
I assume its best to replace all four?
The trucks batteries tried to kill us last night

Yeah. Batteries are cheap, replace them all, especially going into winter.
-
Yeah, I did when one went bad. Had the rest tested and found out they weren't long for the world either.
Same with my air bags. One went bad and i figured they were probably all made the same day, installed the same day, and had all pulled the same freight.
Sometimes simple logic will spare you from a road call.
Like my old tire story.....TLDR, "dude, you're gonna buy a tire. Now whether you do it on the side of the road or at the tire store is completely up to you. But, one way or another, you're going to buy a new tire."
Choose wisely.firemedic2816, broke down plumber, Lonesome and 8 others Thank this. -
Yep. Replace all 4. As others have stated, you’ll have peace of mind, going into winter.
Most likely, a plate broke and is touching the one adjacent to it, which causes a dead short. I just had the same thing happen to mine, early June, after bouncing across Indiana I-70.mjd4277, The_vett, Feedman and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would suggest installing a Carbon Monoxide detector in your sleeper

Checking the batteries should be a routine part of your pre-trip inspections -- each & every day.
You should be checking them for:
- swells
- smells
- leaks
