They are doing you a favor. Every young man in America who cant find a job does one of two things. Join the Military or become a truck driver. I sounds easy, get your CDL then make $60K driving a truck.... Guess what, you will spend 6 months working WITH NO PAYCHECK! Then you will be GONE from your family for 4 months, home for 3 days then GONE again for 4 months.... Money? Yeah, you will get a paycheck, $300 a week for your first year, then if you buck the odds and make it past your first year (90% of new drivers dont make it 9 months) you can earn $5-600 a week if you live in a truck and NEVER see your children.....

Find ANYTHING else, look at the turnover numbers and ask yourself why 1 in 10 make it a year in this industry. The only thing you will do is put your family further in debt with your student loan.

November 2006 was when construction workers around this country found themselves out of work (remember the housing crash that started this whole mess?). I heard one of the talking heads on TV this morning talking about how our economy was doing great 5 years ago but tanked 4 years ago. Anyone remember why GWB was so unpopular SIX years ago? Its the economy stupid. We were screwed in 1997 by Bob Ruben and Alan Greenspan.

The only discharge that really hurts is a Dishonorable. Some of the others may stop you from getting some types of government jobs or jobs that require clearances. Most of the others you still get some benefits, even though the military will say differently to try and frighten you. I know of a guy with a Dishonorable that is a millionaire from flipping houses in real estate. Guys with bad discharges simply check "No" on applications that ask if you served in the military. I've only been asked one time to see my DD-214 and looking back, I think is was just someone being nosy.

Out of 100 new drivers that start out each year....at the 12 month point only 2 are still driving truck.
98% gone. And most walk away from their driving career either worse off financially or deep in debt.

Trucking is not the single solution to no income or no job...

That's why one of the government budget cuts should be to stop all funding of CDL mills .

Wow, it's amazing how much difference there is in attitude between forums on this site.

If trucking is what you want to do, don't let anyone tell you that it's a bad idea. There are plenty of us that make a good living driving a truck, its all about which company you drive for and your starting pay.

The reason who most people leave after less than 1 year is because these big student companies start their drivers out at ridiculously low pay and expect them to support a family off of $300 a week in addition to be gone for weeks at a time.

Not every company is like that. Take my advice from my previous post, or give Maverick a call and they'll give you all the options available on what you can use to prove what you were doing during that gap. If you don't want to try Maverick, Prime is another company that starts their students out at a decent rate from what I've heard.

Most student companies start out at between .23 and .26 per mile. For temperature control, Maverick will start you out at .35, in 3 months you'll move to .38, and then at 6 months you'll go to .41. I'm just coming up on my 1 year anniversary there and aside from some slow freight this month, my checks are almost always at least $700 take home per week.

Dont let anyone tell you that trucking is a bad way to make a living, because it's not. You just have to make sure you find the right company for you that will pay you a decent wage and help train you to do it right.

If you'd like any more info or whatever, feel free to PM me.
