Hey guys well I got my very first speeding ticket today. It may be 3 years or so now until I can get into trucking. I got nailed doing 73 in a 50 today on my way home from work. I was about a mile from my house. I was driving along doing 45 behind a group of cars in the far right lane on a 3 lane and got tired of it and switched lanes and as I did I did'nt see a truck behind me doing close to 60 as I came out of my lane and I jumped on the throttle to not get rear ended. low and behold there was an unmarked dodge charger in my lane in front of me about 3 car lengths ahead, did'nt realize it was a cop until I was in the turning lane to my neighborhood and he slowed down until I made the turn in and got behind me then lit his car up like a christmas tree. I told him my truck was having tranny problems and I was just trying to get home don't know why I told him that but it was the first thing to cross my mind so I was hoping that he was gonna cut me a break with just a warning. NOPE he decided to give me a ticket for $281.00 mind you I have a squeaky clean driving record and criminal record and this is my first speeding ticket,so not squeaky clean anymore I'm so mad at myself for doing that ! Anyways I think I am screwed with finding a company that will hire and train me. What do yall think am I sol now?
Think I just screwed up my chance getting into trucking.

you can get a lawyer and fight it, maybe get it reduced to a lesser charge. be warned its gonna cost you. when your calling around, just tell the lawyer what happened and what you want to do (get a CDL) and you might find one that can work some magic. that big of a ticket will probably require you to go to court. your best bet is to pony up the money and go from there.
it might cost you triple the cost of the ticket, but if you can get it changed, then its worth every penny. -
I think he did cut you a break, actually.
If you got popped for 23 mph over the speed limit and are not spending a night in jail, I'm honestly shocked. I have to assume it is just a speeding ticket, since it's only $281. If you didn't get a reckless, you still have a shot at some of the mega-feeders, er... bottom carriers.
You know what I'm saying. -
Sorry to hear about that. I had a similar situation happen in Louisiana. Small town (Georgetown, LA), didn't see the speed limit decrease from 65 to 45. Got tagged by the local yocal small town hot shot cop. Fortunately, luck was on my side. He only gave me a warning, when I told him I didn't see the speed reduction sign. You have to be careful driving in Louisiana, small towns look for speeders to fill their coffers.
Anyway, have you paid the ticket yet? Do you have a traffic school where you live? I would check on that and see if you can attend a traffic school and maybe have the ticket removed from your record. You will have to pay for the school and the ticket, but it won't go on your record. It really depends on how they view the ticket, usually 15 mph or more over the limit is considered reckless driving and you can't do anything about it. But, it is definitely worth checking into.
Good Luck. -
Yea I hear ya. I'm looking at the ticket now and he did'nt get me for wreckless just speeding. My fiance has a good lawyer so I'm gonna talk to him to see what I can do. I'm 27 and have been driving since I was 18 and this is my first speeding ticket so I may have a shot.Just hope I dont have to pay out my butt to make it go away.

thanks everyone for the suggestions. only violation on the ticket says_ "Speeding-Unlawful speed on a state road" unlawful speed 73 posted speed 50. Definately lucky I didnt get hauled off to jail and my truck getting towed. I don't usually speed he just busted me at the wrong time when I had to get out of the way of another truck coming up behind me when I switched lanes not sure if he seen that or not I think he just heard my truck because I have headers with no cats and free flowing exhaust on a v8 and clocked me once I was behind him.

Check with the local court where you would have to appear and see if you can attend a traffic school. It would be cheaper in the long run verses going to a lawyer.
Good Luck! -
Was this in fl? I got a ticket in fl for 44 over the limit when I was young and dumb. They don't arrest for speeding there. Fl has traffic school, and it's the easiest way to deal with this.

just seen on the ticket that it says_Infraction,Court not required.Guess because it's just a traffic ticket. But I see what you're saying.

Yea it was in Florida Palm Beach County to be exact. Did'nt know that Florida does'nt arrest you for going that much over. I told my dad and he was flipping out saying you're lucky your truck did'nt get towed and getting myself thrown in jail. He's a little mad at me right now.He really wants me to get into trucking and is worried that no one will hire or train me now because of this ticket. I'm going to talk to my fiance's lawyer to see what I can do.May have to go to traffic school.I'll do whatever to make it go away.
