Just moved from Alaska to North East Arknasas. Thinking of changing occupations. I've spent the past 14 years as a Heavy Truck/Heavy Equipment Mechanic, and prior to that, 20 years Military. During my Military years, I operated tractor trailer rigs on a daily basis; however, in 1987 when they offered to transcribe our Military licences to State CDL's, I opted out due to my status and rank. Thought I'd never need it again. So... I'll pay for my own CDL training at a certified school in leiu of a company sponsored program. How about some constructive advice from some of your experienced guy's and gal's out there concerning companies with decent home time, pay, miles, perks, etc.
Thanks

Hello, Just wanted to make you aware of some programs out there. I had my schooling paid for 100% by OVR- Occupational Vocational Rehabilitation( I am from Pa) They probably have a program like this in your state- Also being prior military should open up other possibilities for you

many states have sponsored programs where they will pay your tuition and associated dmv fees. i am not a recruiter, and would rather you did your own research than listen to me about who to drive for. i am also prior air force, as a 2T1 (basically a truck driver) and have found many companies that care who has served in the military.

How much time did you spend in Alaska, Harley?

Just some advice. Try looking into some state funding programs first; that will pay for youre schooling. Then you can control which company you want to work for.
