... I'm an L/O with Swift. If you were to consider teaming with an L/O what type of compensation/time off would you expect.

I was going to team up with my mentor after his last student but we were always about half a country apart when his students were coming off training so he would then take another student. Then they came out with that $.01 for every student's mile going to the mentor, haven't heard from him lol.

He was tentatively going to pay me $.20 or $.21 I can't remember. He had teamed up before and split every thing in half with his teammate who didn't really deserve that much from what I heard. The other option was going to be that I could pick a teammate and take his truck out and split $.42 however we agreed (me getting a little more most likely) so the mentor could go lease another brand new truck and keep training.

I occasionally see job-offer post cards from L/O's and O/O's thumb-tacked at terminals. You could try that to scare up some interest or the jobs posting thread on the boards here.

Well, I would tell you how great I am, and that Im the hardest working driver there ever was. Id tell you how good of a family man I am, and how Im a down to earth guy, that nothing really bothers me. Id ask you what kind of music you like, and that I like the same. Id tell you how I had to loan previous co-drivers money because I always had some and they were terrible with money.

But, Id be lying. And you wouldnt figure this out until you got to a point where you hated me so much, that you'd be ready to strangle me. I'd take whatever the job was paying.

NOT ME PERSONALLY, but, I can see it going down like that.

.18 cpm if everything else was a perfect match, and no hometime, cause Id have to hate hometime to get the job, but after our first dispatch, Im putting in for hometime next week! LOL!

    I kid, I kid!

Thanks for the replies ... even your's rocky. Right now I'm looking for input, to be able to put together a competitive compensation package. I won't be hiring until the first of the year, when I should have everything set up to do direct deposit and cover payroll taxes.

I'm looking at a schedule that will be 5 weeks out and 9 days off.

well the .01 cent thing dont kick in till the student has been off the mentor's truck, going solo for 6 mo. THEN after that, the mentor will see the penny a mile (up to $150/mo). .20-.21 cpm? when you could go solo and start at .25 or .26?

as far as the OP.....i'd expect 2 days off for every 2 weeks out....(14 days)....and i'd want paid 40% of what the truck makes. I'd have said half, but then again it is their truck. I like my privacy too much. I like to do what i want when that truck isnt moving. There are sometimes i enjoy a good conversation, but other times it turns into B.S. and i always make an excuse to leave the area. In a truck, you can't really do that. =)

but if u do it....i'd try to find a friend of yours to go team with. dont take just some 'joe blow'...cause it'll be hit or miss finding a good one. ask yourself this question. Would you trust the other person to drive your truck around the yard while you're in the terminal taking a shower and watching TV?

I might be wrong, but I think swift did away with the penny a mile thing a year or 2 ago.

    They brought it back recently.

Also: the 20/21cpm is for every mile the truck runs, not just the miles that driver turns. At 26cpm, average 2,500 miles/wk it's $650/wk. Double those miles at 20 cpm it's $1,000/wk... 21 cpm $1,050/wk.

    cookie278 Thanks this.

You didn't specify exactly what type of hand you wanted....... you can get a rookie for .18 to.22 but can you sleep ?

Look at this way..... You want to hire you...someone just like you. Can you afford yourself ? Probably not......

Twice as many drivers is just like twice as many trucks.... It never means twice as much revenue.

    Injun Thanks this.

Wow 9 days is a long time. My mentor and I discussed that because he likes 3 weeks out 3 days off and I can run and run for weeks. He said we might have worked it out to where I could drop him for home time then take a short little 500 mile load out and route back to pick him up. Doesn't matter now, I'm too spoiled on solo to want to team up.

    Yee Haw lol
