This again is why so many DC’s make you unhook from the trailer when you’re at the dock

I delivered once to this dc with a dry van. The Winco system was so easy. Now it won't be.

This has got to be the easiest mistake in trucking to avoid. Just ask the dock workers or clerks if they're done loading or offloading.

I've always thought that the safest docks are the ones that lock the trailer bumper or the tandems.

Rest in peace to this poor forklift driver. I hope his family receives a fair settlement.

Iv culled a few lumpers to that way too, I try to tell em to unload from inside the trailer. Not under it, or between the trailer and the dock.

I wonder if a seatbelt would make a difference in this kind of accident. It would probably reduce the chance of winding up underneath the machine.

Lap belt usually - the 5 foot fall strapped to a forklift and the violence thereof, would probably result in severe injury.

Sadly this is becoming common for this exact reason. We have a large apple packer up here in WA that has increased its container exports & had to start requiring drivers to be on the dock to get loaded even with the ICC bar hooked, instead of sitting in there trucks flipping facebook.

Yup local place up where i live had 3 employees badly injured, and one maimed to this stupidity last year when they increased how many containers they bring in.

They now require the drivers to sit their happy ### in a cheap plastic chair on the dock in a gezebo thing, hand over the keys and refuse to load you if you cant understand the shipping person. If you are caught inside your truck for any reason before they give you your keys back. Well they instantly stop loading, you are told to get out of the truck. Then they unload you and you are thrown off the site and banned from coming back. And they WILL ban your entire company for 6 months if more then a single incident happens in a year.

Lots of places will just lock your airline, unhook the 5th wheel, and pull forward. The biggest problem is when it's a large Warehouse or the shipping office is far away with no easy way to communicate with the loaders. No lights no locks just a dock plate.

Not sure if all the Winco places are the same, but I know the one in Boise and the one in Phoenix don’t have dock locks, only lights.
