Yesterday morning on I 15 in Utah sb at exit 207 the juab county sheriff's dept had commercial vehicle check at the bottom of the exit ramp .
No state patrol or dot people there .
When I stopped all the officer wanted to know was if I had haz mat on or not and sent me on my way .
I resisted the temptation to say well do ya see any placards on the trailer lol.
Surely they wernt there inspecting haz mat loads .
This was weird !

They do that every so often, both directions.
It's like they have two new pickup trucks with tonneau covers just to do that. -
Tax dollars hard at work.

Most likely a Level 4 inspection, special assignment. Here is what each standard inspection level means per the CVSA.

There was a red Volvo with about 6 Michigan Trooper Wagons surrounding it on the side of 75 with the trailer doors open.
Drugs probably.
Your original post is correct I feel as well, they are looking for somebody specific. -
Ever seen the ‘drug check ahead’ in KS, right before an exit, with LEO off in the bushes at that exit?
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
The best story I can remember happening in my view regarding excessive state expense was this.
Mr Pothole formed overnight.
One pickup crew cab showed up. 4 people out. three yellow hats and one engineer boss white hat with clipboard.
Then a dump truck crew cab showed up. 4 more come out.
Then a truck with signs show up. 3 came out. Another with cones, a third with barrels. Finally more equiptment showed up.
I think it involved about 4 hours, 10 or so pieces of something owned by state highways of some kind, 4 with trailers of stuff to put out and maybe 50 people all together.
Engineer in white hat points at pothole into the 4th hour.
Two men pulls measuring tape. 2 minutes later the pencil wrote the numbers into engineer clipboard. Then he spun a finger to get everyone to clear out of here were finished here.
10 minutes later everything was gone with exception of one hot patched two foot by three foot Mr Pothole for tomorrows attention.
At the crack of dawn 4 flaggers from a temp company and one staff truck from the state shows up. They begin to corral traffic.
The usual previous process of bigger and more showed up until pavers were unloaded and backhoes followed by front end loaders and vendor outside hot patch dumptrucks started showing up.
I quit paying attention.
6 hours to fix a pothole with a army.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
