Right so what choice did the law have after that?

They gave him more choice than he deserved. Kudos to the cops.

Six, you know I respect the heck out of you. I've learned a lot from you, and every time you "thank" a post of mine it makes me feel like I'm doing something worthwhile. Even when I don't agree with you I can always understand your perspective and learn from it. That said, some of your posts in this thread are off the mark.

I can easily see how one [censored] deranged [censored] "person" can kill three people and wound a fourth before anyone can intervene.

I walk into the Pilot and hold the door open for "May he rot in hell". As I swipe my card to reserve a shower "May he rot in hell" walks behind the counter and stabs the first worker. At her scream I look up, drop my stuff and move to intervene. By the time I am behind the counter he has already stabbed the second victim. As I run for "May he rot in hell" he slashes the 3rd cashier. I catch him as he gets to the other exit from the counter where he meets the 4th victim who was running to help her coworkers. "May he rot in hell" slashes the 4 victim, takes a swipe at me and goes out the door. I follow him out and follow Jimmy Hoffa's "charge a gun run from a knife" advice. "May he rot in hell" isn't attacking anyone, I'm not armed, so I will do what I can to hold him in place until police can arrive.

That is at least what I hope I would do. Frankly I doubt I would be that quick off the mark. When I walk inside in the morning I am very much just going thru the motions. Most of my mind is focused elsewhere, I am not anticipating "May he rot in hell" doing something that is utterly unconscionable to me. It will probably take me a good 15 seconds to understand there is a problem and what that problem is before I can begin to react.

I can clearly remember my first 'save" as a lifeguard. I did not act consciously, I acted on instinct. I had been a lifeguard for 5 years, I was working at a country club where we also ran a snack bar. I was walking a tray of drinks and nuggets to a family when the girl jumped into the deep end. The girl did not know how to swim, and had been wearing a life vest all afternoon. Her mom had taken the life vest off as the family packed up for the day and the girl jumped in. I "saw" the girl from the corner of my eye go to jump in, just like she had all day long. I hit the water less than 1/2 second after the girl and had her above the water before she knew anything was wrong. Even though I was not "in the chair", I was primed and ready to deal with whatever happened because that was my job. I knew I had to be aware and on point, no matter what. Just like I am prepared to anticipate and "pre"-react to things as I drive down the road. I am not prepared for a psycho to go on a rampage. Nor do I think that most of the patrons getting their coffee etc are prepared for "May he rot in hell" to commit murder.

My heart goes out to the victims and their families.

My heart goes out to the poor officer who made a decision I would struggle to live with.

I cannot fault others for running away or standing idly by. There are too many times in my past where I did not stand up. While the stakes have not been life or death, I have learned from those moments and resolved to do better. But I cannot judge an unknown number of people for their reactions (or lack thereof) to a situation I do not know the details of.

Exactly what I'm saying. That was the only solution.

Agreed. They told him to drop the knife and he didn’t comply. Fearing for their own safety and others they no choice but to drop him.

It would be harmful to the narrative if they were to mention the specifics of this event, so it won't be mentioned. It's not important. It's no big deal. You're supposed to feel concerned and sympathetic for the perpetrator, not the victim(s). And you aren't allowed to be upset about it.
