I understand it’s not so cut and dry because people have their own preference but what are the tiers of trucking in your own opinion. If a driver has a 5 year plan what should they strive for?

Regular open deck, then to something like RGN, then to big OSOW with specialized trailers.

I think pulling a reefer is the pinnacle. Bonus if it’s an older Carrier reefer with a rattling enclosure. It just doesn’t get better than that.

Dry van full truck load as the bottom of the barrel, then everything else above that?

Depends how much of a headache you want. Do more skill required the more liability

I always thought that dealing with lumpers , grocery warehouses, unrealistic delivery times and dropped loads were the pinnacle of pulling a refer?

Pulling a reefer has many pleasant surprises. But I love it. The main reason is being able to run weeks in a row starting at 0000 to 0300 and running the roads at night when most of the world sleeps. I guess that's doable with dry van and other types of trucking, but with reefer it's easy.

5 year plan depends completely on the individual and what you want in life. There are so many niches in trucking.
Do you want to drive leisurely coast to coast?
Do you want to be home every night?
Do you want to haul the biggest longest heaviest loads?
Do you want to make a pile of money working really hard and using your brain or make a pile of money just driving around

I run those exact hours pulling a dry van. Best hours to run. Light traffic......never an issue parking between 1200-1500
