I learned to drive in a Ford Maverick. It was a 6 cylinder with a 3 on the tree.
Cabinover101, rachi and mjd4277 Thank this. -
I also had a friend with a Maverick that he put a hot V8 in. That was a fun car.

I was at a farm auction three years ago. This 1975 Ford F-250 Camper Special sold. Last plated in 1978, sat inside unheated shed, but was ran once in a while. Had just over 5,600 miles on it. All original, except fuel tank, fuel pump and lines were replaced due to rust from condensation.
390 four speed. Was running at auction.
The bidding started at $5,000, quickly went up to $14k. Then two guys fought it out, sold for $21,500.whosfate, Cabinover101, dwells40 and 3 others Thank this. -

Mine was about a 70 Maverick, it was a washington dc car locally until I bought it after the owner bought the first production Mustang GT manual 5 speed. At 85 years old. It was a 2 barrel on a 302 V8 backed by a C4 trans. Prone to temperature challenges when foggy and cold became hot and sunny at lunchtime on the manifold and carb.
Traded it in for a Colt GT new at 7400 back then in '89. Years later I picked up a 71 Gt with the 351 and modified engine etc. I added some more goodies as time went along. I would say that was my best car for the older iron in those days for what it's bulletproof reliability provided you changed points every 6000 miles. (I don't know too many youngsters would know what a set of points are inside the distributor...) I could have done a couple of other things to it if I held on to it long enough. But it rusted out the entire wiring system after a brutal winter and I stood there with 1000 feet of 12 volt silver stranded and said hell no. Sell it. Stupid mistake. ha...
Once the neighbors realized the old beast is gone, they celebrated. SOme nights when its quiet you can hear the fuel pump (Non stock, installed up front high flow near the rad feeding the Holley 650 double pump) whirring prior to engine start. They always complained.
Grew up in a small inline ford 6 engined falcon. That particular car was all over east of the Sonoma in the USA at one time. Unfortuantely for it we traded it in for a outright purchase of a little Datsun which was a really smart move back about '72 considering what was going to happen in the Arab Oil Embargo.
The other half of my family in those days had huge cars. Put a dollar into the tank and run all weekend (Almost 5 gallons of leaded gas back then, about... .26ish) Those cars died when compact parking became law in many places. You could not fit them in. So junked after the power steering boxes went out on them.
