that car will need work, replacing seals, especially valve guide seals. Fords were horrendous for real main seals. wheel seals too most likely. just sitting, the rubber shriveled up or dried out, cracked, etc. brake system will need to be flushed, maybe even the cooling system.

good luck to the new owner.

    Upinsmoke and mjd4277 Thank this.

I'm surprised it sold for that much. Nobody wanted those things.

    Or it's cousin the Comet.

Comet.n.- Metal particles floating loosely through space.

    Mavericks are underrated.
They were a joke car at the time but people sink a lot more money into "classic" old cars for a given name. (Like getting an old Chevelle husk out of a cornfield, basically rebuilding the whole thing and making a fake SS.) Modern mill & tranny, independent rear, subframe braces. They didn't look horrible either.

Ford didn't show them much respect either, made them cheap, tossed them out the door, let the customers deal with the flaws.

Frankly if nothing else, they should resurrect the name for a compact sport crossover. Like if the Edge and the Raptor were playing footsie on prom night.

We had a Maverick that the model was called a grabber.

It had a 302 in it and it was pretty fast.

No problem whatsoever smokin them at a light.

Actually Ford did use the Maverick name, albeit on SUV models overseas(some were badge engineered Nissan Patrol or Terrano models or the Ford Escape sold in Europe with the Maverick name).

    Yeah, I knew about that.
But why they won't use that name here? Cowardice.

(Before people say it's because the 70's Maverick was a POS, I argue that the best way to erase the memory of a bad product is to release a good product.)

I think there’s more to it than just that. There’s also possible possible trademark/copyright issues that can also affect the name of a product. Remember the Ford Fusion? Originally when it came out it was originally planned to be named the Futura. The last time Ford used that name was back in the late 70s/early 80s on a trim level of the Ford Fairmont coupe. However,Ford let the name lapse too long and Pep Boys used the name on a tire line. So the car was renamed Fusion, and the rest is history.
