My insurance company quoted me $11k/yr. All in, that is not too bad at all.

RStewart and Bean Jr. Thank this.

That run I told you about paid $1.22 a mile for all miles. Loaded miles only sounds a lot better at over $2, doesn't it?

    That's a pretty good rate.

    I'm curious...

Is there a benefit to having an MC, but no trailer? Only downside is paying more $$$ on insurance

I know there's power-only gigs, I'm just curious how juicy the are, before leasing on to a drop / hook outfit that may/may not work with my desired schedule.

With own MC, I can walk to DMV get my own plates, unlike leasing on, which will take their playes back if we part ways.

    I guess I'm too much of a freebird...lol

I don't know. I am getting my tags on Tuesday and going to a small carrier next week. He knows that I am looking at my own authority and will even help me learn more about the back side.

You can buy your own plates while leased on. That's what I do

@Tug Toy the part that is confusing me is: how to get the primary insurance.

Bobtail is considered secondary (as per OOIDA lady), and cannot be used for plating & having "valid" registration purposes.

    I'm I overthinking here?

I don't know? I have bobtail. I was leased on when I bought my plate so I'm not sure?

The guy I'm leased to normally supplies the plate but I would have had to pay for it anyway. So I just said I'll buy it myself. That way if we go diffrent detections I will still have my plate. If I would of let him get it and I paid him for it he would keep the plate if I left.

If you lease to someone, you run under their primary/liability. You carry bobtail/liability to cover you while not under dispatch/their trailer.

You can get your own plate, which I would suggest in case things don't work out, you can make a change.

States have different requirements for getting a plate. You will need the DOT# of the company you are leasing too, a stamped copy of the 2290, and maybe proof of insurance. (The companies primary liability). Check with your state.
