ok coming up on 1 year experience tanker. Have about 9k in Bank and 4k in 401k. All my current bills equal about $1000 a month. Looking at maybe a 20-30k truck and my Bank will finance it. I only want to do it to say I have my own. Could I possibly be successful this way.

Save up more cash. When you buy a truck, it always seems like it needs 5-10k worth of repairs in the first 1-2 months

Shop around for tanker companies that lease on O/O if that’s the route you’re trying to go.
Most tank haulers require a compressor or blower depending on liquid or dry product, which I’m sure you already know. This will just make finding a good used truck a little harder than it already is.
Not saying it’s impossible but I doubt you’ll find a truck set up for pulling tanks in that price range that won’t need another $10k or more in the near future.
I pulled tanks when I first started trucking.. However, once I bought my own truck, I had to transition to dry van to use the truck that fit my budget as well as get the home time I wanted.
You may need to compromise on the budget or the freight but don’t give up.. keep working and make it happen when the time is right. -

Is the oilfield any good in your area? If so you might want to look into water hauling or possibly crude, just a thought.

You can absolutely make that kind of money and still have weekends off. There’s plenty of good paying freight out there right now.
The most important thing in my mind is thoroughly researching the truck you want in order to limit the risk involved.
Also, if you aren’t able to do most or all of the work yourself on a used truck, most of your savings will soon be in someone else’s pocket.lagging Thanks this. -
