To The Newbies

good post. i totally agree with what you say here.

 

I agree, I grew up in the trucking industry so I learned a lot of this stuff from my dad as a kid, but not every new driver had the same kind of upbringing that I had so they really wouldn't have a clue about these things.

 

this could end up being a VERY informative thread. for us newbie drivers!

any other of you other experienced guys have stuff to add?

Good advice. Actually, Greyhound training did cover such things as common courtesy on the road to other drivers and the general public at large.

 

I am still in CTD school, but those things are obvious even to me. Seems common courtesy is hard to find these days. The Golden Rule still applies...

 

You have hit the nail on the head directly there Rev. I started driving in 1973 and common courtesy seems to be going out the window. I can remember when we use to run without CB's and we use to flash our lights when we seen a bear somewhere. Now, you can't get another driver to report a bear on the CB. When I go down the road in my four wheeler and a rig passes me and I flash my lights at the driver to come back over, 8 out of 10 times the driver won't flick his markers or 4 ways back at me. I use to think maybe it is because I am in my four wheeler, but huh it even happens when I am in a big truck. So come on you new drivers, let's make truck driving as enjoyable today as it was 30 years ago. Oh, one more thing. talk on the CB as if you were talking to your wife or your parents. Well, maybe better yet, your preacher. I've heard how some, not all, of these younger people talk to their parents and spouse. Okay ya'll have a safe trip no matter where you go.

Good POST i am a newbie myself, but thats just commen sense , but i know there are a few(dozen thousand ) drivers who do not respect others.
