Hello, company driver here. I’m curious, do you owner operators running from the NE to Chicago/upper Midwest avoid the toll road through Indiana and Ohio? Just generally curious, thanks.

It would depend on my feeling and if time isn't an issue. In & oh don't compare to pa. I like taking the roads less traveled anyway try not to be in a rush.

I avoid it like 98% of the time. Depending on where I'm going, I either run US 20 or US 30.Cattleman84, tallguy66, mitmaks and 1 other person Thank this.

We avoid the toll road thru PA if can help it but across north Indiana we just run the toll road. If it was just me driving the truck I’d probably put more thought into it, but running multiple trucks I’ve found best to just be consistent.

Time is the only thing that matters. It determines if I can or cannot make delivery.

When with heavy weight and stressed for time US 30 in Indiana is not good at all. Too many slow downs and traffic lights. $55.00 buys you more comfortable ride. US 30 in OH is much a better highway.
Chicago land is a headache to bypass tolls, if not counter productive.
When the rates are lower I am more inclined to be frugal and use these non toll roads and when they pay better I say "just a little bit of money. I can afford it".tallguy66, Midwest Trucker and Siinman Thank this.
