Yes, we are allowed 4' off the front and 6' out back, with no flagging required on new vehicles. Used to be 3' & 4', but they upped it when they gave us 80'.
Fun fact : those high-mount trailers aren't considered auto transports in the regs, legally they're a fancy 53' flatbed, and subject to the same rules. But many states don't enforce that, although the ones that do have ruined more than a few guy's days.
Too much overhang?

@Banker it just occurred to me that you too, are an old highrail guy. And any of us with sense knew to run #10 so it rocked forward and loaded the front links. Those rear links were the weak point on a lot of different Cottrell trailers, they wore out fast enough with the weight rocked forward to load all 4 links, balancing the weight on the rear links was a guaranteed trip to the welder in short order.

My rack doesn't go that low, but it goes low enough I had to change seats to a low rider. The factory WS seats have a ridiculously high base, even aired down it was too high. I'm not going down the road if I can't see the horizon without doing the Detroit lean.Last edited: May 5, 2025
