Any suggestions on my morning load of fertilizer in totes?
I passed the computer test ages ago. Never been hooked to a tank so this a new experience...

Make sure they're strapped down really well.

Accelerate gently, brake gradually, and slow way down for curves and turns.

@RockinChair nailed it. Along with his advice, a nugget of information I can offer is make sure they know how to load them so the weight is distributed evenly. Your probably lookin at a ton or more per tote. I’d usually go single, double, single then double back. Obviously this depends on how many you get. You’ll be alright. Just take your time. Oh! If they do nose load all of them, and you hafta drop your trailer, slide your tandems all the way to the rear before you get out from under it to prevent a nose dive.

Not on a deck, in a reefer. But yes I have straps and a couple of bars to put behind them.

    RockinChair and motocross25 Thank this.

Not too much to it. You’ll probably feel some surge. Give yourself a little extra more time to stop for lights and what not.

Hazmat totes you're supposed to have a strap on every tote.

12 totes, 12 straps. To the side of the trailer.

    That's minimum.

We had several guys fail inspections, and several shippers are requiring 2 on every tote.

I've had DOT cut the cable seal and climb through the trailer.

May The OM be with you.

Make sure straps DO NOT touch plastic or the lid of tote. Friction might damage them. Take it easy on the driving, pretend there's a three tiered wedding cake back there.

MACK E-6 and Qbf594 Thank this.

Check the totes for leaks, damage that compromises the structure ,and make sure all the fill spouts and drain spouts are snug.
Any leak, and I mean any leak of any amount, is a haz-mat violation and will cost big bucks.

Is all fertilizer hazmat? The OP didn't specify, and it sounds like they're not expecting hazmat. I've only hauled totes once and it was temp controlled latex paint base. That stuff didn't surge or anything. It might just be my driving style though.

One note that may not be obvious is, the more full they are the less surge you'll get. If they're half full it might be fun.
