I'm doing a research project on various types of trailers and need some help with resources. I want to take radar and lidar measurements of various trailers (Van with/without aero features, flatbed or platform, liquid or grain tank). Where can I go to hire a driver with his own truck as well as rent these various trailers? Ideally it would be somewhere near Bakersfield, California. Any help would be appreciated.

You will have a problem trying to rent commercial trailers since you are not in the biz. You would have to find a driver who is "off duty", approach him, work a deal to use him and his truck, locate and rent the trailers etc

I figured as much. I posted a job ad looking for owner/operators in the bakersfield area to work with, but I don't think its been approved yet. I've resorted to cold calling number in the yellowpages or on quicktransportsolutions.com but half the numbers are disconnected and most of the other numbers are for companies that hire owner/operators and won't release their information. Do you have any other recommendations on reaching owner/operators in a specific area?

I'm skeptical of anyone wanting to do "research" in our industry. Most likely the research gets used against us somehow in the end.
