    great posts dirty dragon...

a comment on your posting, you and I have both continually referred to the scottsburg people as instructors or trainers.

    well... yes and no...

I think a better word may be evaluators. I say this since in my opinion this is more what they are doing.

evaluating your ability to follow instruction, function under pressure, think clearly and for yourself, as well as not heist a load of "X" from their customer...

scottsburg beyond a training facility is a week long job interview. The training actually comes in the month afterwards, with you over the road with a real trainer. (some better than others)

This may not sound proper or correct but I learned more the first month by myself than I did the whole time I was with rob. Rob was a fantastic trainer, so read that line carefully, I was very fortunate to have him copiloting.

but??? nothing but the solo experience will really teach you what you need to know to drive solo...

the real learning experience comes when you're tossed in the deep end and told to sink or swim... lol

rob tried to tell me his training was more about not getting killed thru stupidity and some basic mapping skills... but that the real training was the self education I was about to get or give myself.

    rob was right again... hehe

after a month or so of being alone, the transformation is almost comical in that you realize you are still a bit lost, you are just so used to being lost that you no longer care. Instead, you just calm down relax and do the job.

papers not right, directions not right, wrong phone numbers, roads closed, whatever??? I gotta go... you'll muddle through the total chaos of what would have seemed a ludicrous situation as a student, without really thinking about or worrying about it.

This is to say, you will take what is available and make the best of it. Somehow you will get the load to the right person, at the right time, in the right place, and you'll do it all by yourself because you'll realize that calling the trainer, dispatcher, customer, will probably be much more hassle than just doing it yourself. besides if you call the dispatcher the information will likely be totally wrong anyways... lol

I now feel, "I are a truck driver" not because I drive the truck, but because I've gotten to the point of self reliance where I trust myself and my own judgement more than that of the desk jockey's.

I also kinda realize the only thing that kept me from doing this job from day one all by myself, was me... True, then I'd have been overwelmed... but really, I haven't learned anything... beyond slow down and don't get excited... it'll all work out just shy of the 14 hour mark. After all, it always does...

figuring this part out can't be trained into you, it comes with experience. rather in a month, two, three, or a year. Its different for everyone I imagine... and it will come to all who stick it out.

    be well, happy trails...

I just called TA's recruiting number. I do not like the way it is set up. I really wanted to speak to a live person instead of a computer. I had a couple of questions regarding their hiring map. I live in WV (and yes we wear shoes here,.. at least we do when crossing into other states :biggrin_2559: ) and according to thier map, it would appear that they do not hire in WV.

So what is everyone else's opinion on this company? Does anyone here work for them that lives within the 50 miles of the "white line" as they say? We do and my hubby is looking to go with them, and wondering if they will really get him home 3 weekends out of 4 like they claim...??? Thanks for any input.

He worked for them when he first started driving for 3 months, and he was only home 3 days out of a month for all 3 months... so I am leary about him going with them due to not getting the home time.... but they didn't claim that back then either. Plus he never brought home more than $400... but he was also a student driver then as well.. so anyone who has been with them recently have anything good to say about them? He worked for them in 2002.
