    Few years ago CHP wanted to do something like this on I-15 between Barstow and Victorville but Sacramento's almighties stopped it.

    Well, thats interesting, still going on today.
    Back in 70's or 80's I pulled into a large truck stop one night on I-90 somewhere in IL or IN and I saw two cops bobtailing a dark blue W-900A around the parking lot looking for evil doers.
    There was a small sticker about 3 inches square near the door latch saying the truck was a police vehicle with the name of the county or city but you would never know unless you were paying attention and close enough to read it as I was when it slowly passed close to me in the parking lot.

    The local police have a silver Chrysler minivan, and a grey honda civic as unmarked police vehicles...wow do they stop a lot of people who don't think they are police vehicles.

    They could put a lift kit and big tires on a SUV or pickup truck for less money, maintenance, and more mobility.

    Maybe it doesn't matter much as texting fines are huge.

    In Massachusetts they do have a few unmarked Mustangs running around (very rarely) along with unmarked Ford Fusion sedans. Other than that,it it’s the standard fare Crown Vic,Taurus and Explorer based police interceptors(both marked and unmarked). However there are also some Expeditions and F-Series/Super Duty pickups rolling around on occasion.
