FEMA estimates 30,000 headed to shelters. If I lived closer and away from harms way I would be offering my home and also help with the rescue because I have a boat.

My brother ended up taking that load to Houston, a power only and the trailer is a mobile kitchen for the relief effort. He made it just south of Dallas. Waiting to hear back from the guy managing this project to see whether I-45 is passable. TxDOT shows it is closed until the 30th. At least he will get hefty detention pay.
Infosaur, TallJoe, austinmike and 1 other person Thank this. -

Expect a spike in fuel prices. A huge chunk of our refinery capacity is in Houston. European refiners won't be able to handle our need, so Asian refineries will have to crank up to full capacity. No telling how long it will be before damage to our refineries and other infrastructure is repaired.
Big Don Thanks this. -

I made it to Beaumont last night. Tornado warning and flash flooding warning all night long. This am my manager says "turn around, get out of there". On my way thru Orange and Lake Charles had side roads flooded. On my way to Arkansas now and still raining nonstop. I think we have yet to see the real aftermath of Harvey. The storm isn't over just yet.
