Is the federal annual inspection supposed to be complete by the same month the next year? I've got a company mechanic who said it's done by the mileage and that the truck I'm being assigned has another 50,000 miles to go before inspection...but he says the last inspection completed was 02/2025.

Shouldn't the truck be federally inspected now before being allowed to roll because it's been more than a year?

"Annual" - it is in the name. Words have meaning.

Swift mechanic says 'Annual inspection' is dependent on mileage. Swift is really the joke that never ends.

Okay, I checked with mechanic again and he misread the last inspection was 02/2026 not 02/2025.

Your truck and your trailer should have an inspection sticker on each unit. Or at minimum you should have the inspection reports for both in your truck paperwork book.

If you do drop and hook it is important to check the dates on the trailer inspection sticker during every pre trip. Small details like that can save you from looking foolish during a level one inspection.

You got me wondering why you needed to ask your mechanic when the information is right in front of you.

The information was not "right in front of me"...the previous inspection the mechanic forgot to put a new sticker on. It was a slip-seat situation...so there was no annual inspection paperwork in the truck...perhaps previous driver took it...there was also no insurance or IFTA papers.

"Small details like that can save you from looking foolish during a level one inspection."

Hence why I did all of that this morning. Good thing I did. Thanks

    OldeSkool Thanks this.

Your OP left out those trivial details.. Perhaps you should have been asking for an inspection sticker instead of a date of the last one..

Nonetheless, I was only trying to pass some small details along to you. Figured if you didn’t know what “annual” meant then you may be in need of a little mentoring :)

It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PAPER WORK AND THE STICKER IS ON THE TRUCK.

Just to clarify, the sticker isn’t required. Only the current inspection form.

    Concorde and Razororange Thank this.
