The manager of a local transport company here stole about 6 mobile phones from a load. The main mobile phone service provider tracked them as soon as a SIM was put in and turned on - Manager was charged with theft, it was his fathers business - DOH!!!!

Wow that’s interesting. When we were company drivers we would pick up I phones from fed ex in Chicago area and we would have a police escort from the moment we left yard until our documents were signed at the receiver. It would be two armed officers in a regular vehicle but they followed the whole trip. Sucks for this company, sure hope they find the culprit. I can’t stand a thief.

Hot iPhones are pretty much useless to thieves. All major components are serial locked including display, processing unit, etc. They are not even that valuable for parts.

kind of a stupid headline "Truck carrying $11.5million worth of cell phones disappears in Florida" they know where the truck is it's the trailer that went missing.

I can’t imagine a load of a million or more not being escorted. We also carried 3 million in pharmaceuticals and had a police and a helicopter escort. The helicopter did not go the entire way.

    Uhh... No.

The reefer world sees $million+ loads daily without escort, especially seafood.

How much do you think a trailer load of King Crab runs? Or Caviar? Caviar itself is $800-16,000 per pound, so a light load of 20,000 lbs could be worth $16 million to $320 million. King Crab is about $75/lb (and a much more common load), so a truckload is over $3 million.

The pharmaceutical load was likely escorted because it was of a certain schedule narcotic, not the value.
