I think you better check that sign again, last I checked, the Texas speed limit for trucks was still 70 mph, even in the 80 mph zones.

PackRattdi, I run that stretch of I-10 quite a bit and beside every 80mph sign is another sign stating that truck speed limit is 75mph. At night I think it's 70mph. I have passed texas statetroopers out there and they won't chase you unless you're 12 to 15 over. It's wide open desert with hardly any traffic. Every now and then you may see the speed traps around Fort Stockton or Sonora, other than those 2 cities its pretty wide open.

Texas speed limit is 65 at night for all vehicles. I've drove out to Fabens, TX not long ago and the sign trailing the "Speed limit 80/night 65" sign were signs that said "Truck Speed limt 70/night 65". According to TEXDOT, that's what the truck speed limit is statewide. If you are seeing truck speed limit signs that say "Speed limit 75/night 70", take a picture because I have to see it to believe it. -
