Our fleet is 50% Volvo... All the Volvos that DONT have airride front suspensions lean to the passenger side after a while. The ones WITH airride front suspensions dont ever develope this problem.
shatteredsquare, KB3MMX, Snailexpress and 1 other person Thank this. -
Should be in front or back this thick 20\28mm? Plz -
The thick one should be on a driver side, and it’s thicker to the back facing drive axles. You will need to go by the vin number as far as thickness of those wedges. This is my truck 2013 with 13200 front axle. 20/28 was for a different VNL I forgot what year it was maybe with a d12 in it. One thing I do remember it had 2 different part numbers for the top plate that the shock mounts to and they looked different on a PC screen, mine are the same.
Snailexpress Thanks this. -
Thx for your reply !
I owe you a pack of 12 ...cold Labatts. You are better informed than half a dozen of Volvo stelerships, they don't know what are doing.
I have same axle on my 2010/780 , Arvin Meritor 13,200lbs I had springs replaced @ Volvo and they changed this wedges also to bring it to factory specs for alignment, but there are 2 parts for this wedges in Volvo parts system for my Vin , 20435532 the thick one 28mm (measure at the pin) and 20435531 /20 mm exactly as you explained awhile back in this thread. This guys at parts don';t even know why are two options. They installed thick on both sides aligned the truck and was rough and leaning left.
Interesting i checked with 6-7 Volvo shops, some told me the thick goes right to compensate road slope, others said that should be both same thickness , but volvo offers two for different springs.
Yesterday, i corrected the issue but the technicians were convinced i'm wrong to install a thin one to the right, so they came with technical book and was written clear warning the truck could lean or get rough on steer.
Thx again!Attached Files:

Newto Trucking Thanks this. -

The part numbers match the ones I looked at a while ago for other guy. And as far as 20 and 28 they must measure them at the middle.

Newto, i see yours also has marks on left frame and on rubber bump stopper, but nothing on right; so was mine. I hope this changes fix it.

I hit roughest railroad crossing that I can remember in this beautiful city of St Louis last week, there was no cars in front of me and no sign rough crossing, speed limit 40 so I hit it hard and felt it thru the whole truck. Lesson learned. As a truck reaching close to a million and looks like a original leaf springs I’ll probably will need to replace them soon. Good catch as I don’t go under a truck that often.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
That is a Caster wedge.
The purpose of two different sizes is cross-caster.
This reduces the steering wheel pull to the right side on cambered US roads...shatteredsquare Thanks this. -
I have another question about air ride leveling valve plumbing ,plz.
I found this diagram in Volvo manual; So the leveling valve has two out ports, each supplying air to two air springs.
I checked on my truck , they are connected per axle , one out port splits in two supplies air to left and right air spring first drive axle and the from other out port splits in two supplies air to rear drive axle left right.
But here in Volvo manual shows each out port splitting and supplying one side of the truck, one both air spring left and the other both air springs right. Is it possible they were wrong connected on my truck when valve was replaced?
What's correct answer? Plz
Let's do 50-50 or call a friendAttached Files:
