    You can do it the easy way, but, then you'll be a cdl-A licensed driver with no experience and no formal training. Owner-operators won't hire you because their insurance companies won't allow it. Also, owner-operators now use Elogs, so their time management won't accomodate training periods for new cdl drivers with no experience.
