    This is a hazy memory, but some clutch would self adjust by putting it in 1st gear, shut off the motor, and push clutch down to floor 2 or 3 times. It would feel like a ratchet cinching it up.
    Can't remember what vehicle this was in. Either Volvo truck or Mustang Cobra or Toyota Tacoma.

    Yeah, I forgot that part- breakdown said to pump the clutch all the way a few times first. Thn I had to turn off engine, put in gear as it was dying, start back up in gear and float to shift until it readjust. It sounded bizarre and I didn't believe them. But it worked and I guess it's a "thing."

    At the risk of dating myself: my brand new 1985 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe had a self adjusting clutch as you describe, one of the few owners manuals I've ever read, lol

    Its splitting hairs maybe to say if your setting the clutch which is what you are actually moving, when setting the stop brake distance. At any rate set the distance between the brake and throwout bearing to 1/2 inch first by turning clutch adjustment clockwise. Once that is achieved set the free travel with pedal adjustment rod. naturally if the fiber on the brake is gone or is an oily greasy mess replace it.
